Take your dog to the groomer or Vet to have its Anul Gland cleaned. Dogs have this gland and this is what gives that smell or oder of dog. It is a simple and inexpensive process the dog may not like it to much but it is quick and easy as soon as it is done bathe him or her and you will be amazed.

(The very reason why we will never have a dog)
Get the carpets stem cleaned and treated by one of those disaster recovery cleaning companies, they have high powered deodorizers and cleaners. Then you are going to have to bathe the dog weekly or at least take him to the groomers once a month at least. Then while he/she is there have the anal glands cleaned and also the vet can do this.
Dogs smell it is inherent and nothing much you can do but clean religiously both your home/carpets and the dog, or make the dog stay outside or in one room.
We had a dog growing up and she went to the groomers every 2 weeks and got bathed the week in between visits.

i have a smelly basset...we throw her in the pool once a week (this teaches her to swim), the chlorine kills all odors! When she's dry, I sprinkle her LIGHTLY with A & H Baking Soda (but don't let her eat it); she wears a snood (a special bonnet) everytime she goes outside so her long sweeping ears don't pick up the dirt; i find the better dog foods lower the odor like IAMS, Eukaneba, Hills Science, NutraPro, etc. My groomer uses Bath & Body Works Splash or I use Musk in a pinch.

any thing from a bottle will only cover dog smell then you have flowery dog smell! yum. after years of this we slowly room by room took up carpet and laid ceramic tile and wood floors. took years but i have 4 great danes and no dog smell. i dont have curtains i have blinds and i dont have upholstery on the couches we have leather. all the surfaces hold oder. so as you remodel keep these things in mind. you want to be able to wipe it down, often!

You may never get rid of the smell unless you get rid of the carpet and put down some tile or pergo floors.

Are we talkin' dog pee?
Use Simple Solution (www.simplesolution.com)---it's some kind of an enzyme--when it dries there's no more pee smell....works wonders for us inside, outside, etc.
There's also another brand, I can't think of the name, but that works too---I get it at Petsmart, Petco, etc.
