Summer of 07 we do plan to get married, but it is the second time around for the both of us. We don't want a wedding , we both have been there also. But we would like to have 2 receptions, one in Tennessee where I live and one in New Jersey where he is from.(He is a Tennessean now) Would that be a very unkosher thing to do?

GO FOR IT! THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO MEET ALL THE FAMILY...WITHOUT THE GREAT COST OF A WEDDING! THIS IS A WONDERFUL IDEA...JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU PURCHASE A DICTIONARY AND LOCATE THE WORD DIVORCE AND RIP THAT PAGE OUT OF YOUR DICTIONARY....OPEN YOUR BIBLE AND READ WHAT A HUSBAND AND WIFE'S ROLES ARE AND THEN BE THE GREATEST EXAMPLE OF WHAT A MARRIAGE SHOULD BE!

Elope usually means just the 2 of you. I would say yes if there are no children involved. I think the 2 parties is a great idea but maybe if either of you have children you could have just a very small ceremony with just you and the children as my husband and I did the second time around. We had a justice of the peace perform the wedding in her home and we had flower baskets and candle light for the evening ceremony. After the ceremony we just went out with our children and their spouses/girlfriends for an intimate supper for 10. We never did do the party thing but I really would have enjoyed that. Congratulations the time will pass quickly and may you have a great wedding.

There is nothing wrong with that. Eloping is fine if you just want to share your union with him.. esp. if its your second wedding. And two receptions sound lovely. It will be very nice for both families for you to go to them since many probably will have trouble getting to one place or the other and it also saves them a lot of money! Smart thinking and congrats!

I hate how people assume you are asking for gifts or presents in all this... A reception doesn't necessarily mean you automatically get gifts. I think a reception is more to celebrate with family and friends than to get gifts... thats what a shower is for!

I find it very odd.
Why elope if you want a party? Two parties at that?

If I were your relative I would think it was strange. What are you planning to wear at these events since you are already married?
Surely not wedding attire.
I don't think it would be a reception, as that is something that occurs immediately after the wedding where you receive your guests celebrating your wedding. It's a party at the point you are suggesting.

If you get the etiquette right it would be fine. But don't expect gifts for a second wedding, and also you should not have a shower since you're not inviting people to the wedding ceremony itself (yes, it is still a wedding, even if you don't invite guests).

No way two parties to celebrate the begining of a new life together. Have a great time, involve all your loved ones from around the world and make lots of memories doing it. Congrats.

I say go for it.

I think the 2nd wedding thing will help everyone to understand and I'd just be sure to have anyone at the wedding itself that it would mean a lot to them to be there. . .

and my advice always is to hire a wedding coordinator even if just for receptions. they help a LOT.

best of luck to you!

It's very practical and considerate, though since your families and friends aren't attending the wedding, I don't think you can request gifts. But the point is to celeberate your love with the people you love, not to get presents.

You aren't technically suppose to call it a reception if you don't invite people to a wedding.Proper etiquette says you should call it a party to celebrate your marriage .
