My husband and I used to raise GSH - and they are hard headed and do require a LOT of exercise. You should take her for a long walk at least twice a day, or to a dog park where she can get rid of some of this energy. Also, if she is not spaded, do so - it will help calm her down. I watch one of my shorthairs climb over a seven foot fence. What I did was attach chicken wire at the top of the fence and slanted it into the yard. If a dog tries to climb they can't figure out how to get around this. Good Luck - and research the next dog you get.

German pointers are hunting dogs; they probably catch a whiff of something in the air and they want to hunt. You could probably try a thicker collar and thicker chain with your dog. Sounds like your dog is pretty smart and will most likely slip the harness again, so try a collar this time. When you tie your dog out, make sure you have the chain attached to something sturdy. Don't get one of those ones you stick into the ground. If she still slips her collar, then try tying her in the fence. How about some bones to chew on? Nylabones are always good and should keep her entertained on chewing rather than trying to escape. Kongs are good too. Good luck with whatever you choose

my short hair could clear a 6' fence with out a running start. the are an easy dog to train vary smart. once mine was trained she would not leave the yard with being told OK even if the gate was open. (not that it would stop her anyway)get a book on dog training and read it. it is not an over night process but it is easy. just stay with it> a Short hair is the most bull headed dog I ever had. But she was the best dog also and a better hunting partner is hard to find

That dog was bred to run and range far. It is the norm to hunt & trial from horse back with them. Get a well built dog run, and maybe you will be able to keep it in the yard. Of course you could always try training,,, it is quite amazing what dogs can be taught to/not to do.

Exercise Exercise Exercise! Wear her out so she won't want to roam on her own. My friend has a male GSP, and if she misses walking him even once, over the fence he goes. Or build your fence higher. My pittie likes to jump the fence and roam. Had to raise my fence.

Look on the bright side... you'll stay fit and trim!

Get a better fence and keep her in the house when you can't watch her.
