Ha Ha, I was told heaven was down the road to stop us venturing down there. The incredible hulk lived in our attic (The trap door was on the top of the stairs). Stopped us from venturing out of our beds in the middle of the night. If you make a nasty face and the wind changes it will stay like that. ET wandered around downstairs at night and will take you to space if he catches you. They still wonder why none of us were good sleepers and had a lot of nightmares !!!

If I was naughty the police would take me to prison and there I would be eating Spiders on Toast. Untill this day I am terrified for all insects except Ladybirds but hey I never got into trouble.

Yes, they said they would send me away to a house in the mountains. Where you couldn't wear clothes so spankings would hurt more. You had to eat cold cereal for breakfast and lunch then lima beans for dinner--every day.

Yes, there was a friend of the family that had his thumb cut off. And my brother always sucked his thumb - they told us that he lost his thumb because he sucked it too much. I never forgot that they told us that, and I believed it for a long time. I don't know when I finally realized that it wasn't true.

Turned out all I got was an ulcer, and I still cant afford a BMW

Yes, my dad told me I would go to hell if I lied. I will never forget this conversation we had. I must have been about 6 years old. I was scared to death.

Oh some classic lies:

"If you unscrew your belly-button, your bum will fall off"

"Messing with particular parts of your body will make you go blind"

and one my father said that made me sleep in my car once:

"If you're not home by midnight, I'm locking the doors so your keys won't work" - he did!

When we were kids,we were warned not to pick up a haircomb lying in the street as it belonged to the Banshee,( a ghostly old lady who would comb her long hair whilste wailing for the dead & dying.)It used to scare the s*it out of me.

Yes, all the time. I liked to swear as a child so they said i could swear as much as i liked as long as i didn't say "blue stockings" Swear words lost their appeal after i discovered blue stocking was a real shocking thing to say instead..
