It depends on your vet. They all charge different prices. Call your local humane society and ask them for a referal. They usually have access to good vets at a low cost.

It depends on where you live and what king of place you have it done. Some low cost clinic can do it for around $20 while at some pet hospitals you might pay $80-$100, but be warned. My boss worked at a spay/neuter clinic before he had his own practice and he quit quickly due to the unsanitary practices. They would sedate the cats, shave them, and line them up on the surgery table, then he was supposed to just go along the table using the same scalpel to neuter then all, no gloves, scrub or anything. He said I'm not doing this. You get me what I need or none of these cats are getting neutered today. There is a reason it is so cheap...you get what you pay for. Make sure you know what you are getting. It shouldn't really cost more than $50 (I'm in Texas so other areas of the country may be more expensive) at most places. Also some humane groups give discount coupons for local clinics so you might check into that.

Most vets won't do it that young though it is now done routinely at many animal shelters around the country. The Winn Feline Foundation did a long-term study on the effects of early spay-neuter and found it did no harm to cats.

So you do have a little time to "shop" around for a price that is right for you. I would definitely plan to have it done by five months if possible.

Why did you get the kitten if money was an issue. I am sure he hasn't gotten vaccines vet either. There is a lot of cost that goes into having an animal.
Try the local shelter. Get the female spayed while you are at it.

If your are on a budget, check out your local animal shelter. Also, sometimes there are local groups who will help you get your pet spayed or neutered for FREE; check your local yellow pages or ask around at pet stores near where you live. Cost varies widely. Example: It cost $35 to get my cat fixed at the local shelter (shots included); the local vet wanted to charge me literally TEN TIMES this amount (for just the spay!)....

Good luck...
