Depends, but not likely. Often the space exists due to fibrous tissue that keeps the teeth apart. Even people who have braces to move the teeth together see the space return afterwards because of this fibrous tissue. I work as a dental assistant (15 yrs experience) and have assisted in minor surgeries to remove this attachment and have seen great results. See a different dentist to determine the cause of the space, at least for a second opinion.

By 13, it's iffy, but it is common for this space to close by itself. Your dentist looked at you and he knows exactly what your stage of development is, so I'd trust his word. The eye teeth develop high up in the front of your face and crowd the roots of your middle teeth together. This causes the space to be there as your teeth are erupting. Once all six front teeth are really totally in place, the space has usually closed on its own.

depends how old you are. If you still have more molars to come out, then maybe. But usually you need braces.
