I went to the doctor when this just started but now it's getting worse. I'm getting reddish bloches on my body. I went to the doctor yesterday and he doctor thinks i may be allergic to amoxicillin but he doesn't know so he's taking me off and putting me back on in 2 weeks to make sure. I just wanted to know if any of you could look at these pictures and tell me if i should be worring a lot about this because he had prescribed 500mg of amoxicillin which is a lot isn't it? I was taking it for a week and just yesterday is when i started getting these red spots. Have any ideas of what is going, is my body doing this because it's getting rid of it or is it because something bad is happening and i need to get medical attention quick?
Thank you so much. Here's the link to the picture so you can see.

definitely an allergic reaction.

antibiotics usually come in high doses b/c it's needed to fight off infection. and it does take time for all of the medication to leave your system. i can't believe your doctor wants to put you back on a medication he "thinks" you are allergic to!! he should know that the more you come in contact to something you are allergic to-the worse the reaction gets!!

do NOT allow him to put you back on this medication-you have a patient's rights law that allows you to have a say in your medical treatment and i would advise you being switched to another antibiotic-now the important thing to remember with antibiotics is they usually come in groups and there are several "sister" drugs for amoxicllin-anything ending with "-cillin" is more than likely a sister drug and you'll react to it as well. augmentin is another drug that actually has amoxicillin in it-so avoid this one as well.

you will probably be safe with things such as erythromycin, gentamycin, vancomycin,or keflex.

check with your doctor and make sure whatever medication he does put you on doesn't have any form of the "cillin" you are allergic to. and if your doctor doesn't seem to be sympathetic to your allergy or still insists on retrying the medication-switch doctors-your health is too important to be tested like that.

Non Allergic Amoxicillin Rash Pictures

Those pictures look like an allergic re-action . Usually a doctor does prescribe 500mg, sometimes more depending on the infection. I myself am allergic to many antibiotics. It may take two days for it to work out of your system. If the symptoms worsen call the physician. I would also ask your doctor about another type of antibiotic if amoxicillin is causing this type of rash.

It looks like a drug rash. Since you were taking amoxicillin prior to developing this rash, one can asume that antibiotic is the culprit. However, if you had a sore throat due to infectious mononucleosis(glandular fever/mono), and your doctor misdiagnosed it as streptococcal sore throat, there is a chance that rash in that case is non-allergic, albeit still related to amoxicilin. I personally would not advise you to retry amoxicillin to see whether you are allergic or not as there are numerous other antibiotics that can be used instead of amoxiciilin.

Try over the counter Claritin(loratidine) 10 mg once daily until rash resolves.

you definatlley got an allergy to some thing i think it could be amoxicillin i have had the same reaction to two different antibiotics and came out with the same rash as you unless you have eaten something different to what you normally have i am not a doctor but i would say its the tablets

That looks like an ampicillin rash. Putting you on a small test dose could be OK as a test procedure to check this. If so it would be better to avoid any of the penicillins in the future.

Yes, you can be allergic to amoxicillin. I think your doctor would know more about this subject than most people on here. If it's really bothering you that much, ask your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist.

This definitely looks like an allergic reaction; if in doubt, go to the emergency room. They would ALWAYS prefer you to come in, even if it is a false alarm, rather than refrain from coming in and allow something serious to harm you.

I itch just looking at them! I am highly allergic as well. My last reaction was 24 yrs ago (I was 5) and I still remember what I looked like and how BAD they itched! Good luck!
