Here is an answer you might like. One of the reasons I avoid lying at all costs is because my memory isn't very good and I can't remember my lies. If you lie about being somewhere you weren't, you never know when it will come up in conversation again, or who else might have seen you at the wrong place at the wrong time, etc.
I try hard to live my life in such a way that I don't need to lie. When I do something wrong and get caught, I admit it and get it over with.

Sorry but the only reason anything is right or wrong is because God says it is right or wrong. If evolution is right and there is no God than the only law there is is survival of the fitest. Only God can bring morality into it. There is a measure of humans working together for the good of all, but that only works to the extent that people will comply. There is no answer if you reject God and truth then all that is left is lies.
You are a nornal humanist to not not not want Biblical answers You are just in the wrong section. Try Philosophy

Majority of the time, decision based on truth is more accurate and useful than when it is based on falsehood. In that light we almost always want to know the truth and is therefore offended by lies.
The only exception I can think of is when knowledge of the truth would affect emotions in such a negative way that is harmful; Or that it would add nothing of value to the situation. Even then, truth is justified because it is fact and natural.

Sometimes lying can be more beneficial than telling the truth. However on the whole when someone lies it is meant to decieve the other party. Deception is hurtful & manipulative, therefore wrong.
You can't just say "lying is bad" like everything else this has to be decided on a case by case basis. If your wife/girlfriend asks you if she looks fat, and she does, when you say "no" are you hurting anyone? I would see telling the truth in this instance as being more hurtful.

I believe lying is wrong because when you lie to people you get characterized as a joke, someone who thinks they are above everyone else. I have a few relatives that are salesmen, so they (by nature) exaggerate their stories. At first SURE I believed them, then I found out they were liers. I have absolutly NO respect for them, and everytime they speak, I want to throw something in their face to shut them up. If I'm going to waste my time listening to them...the least they should do is tell me something truthful. Now, I don't beleive a word they say.

"Sin is transgression of the law." The law, which is the 10 commandments states, "Thou shalt not steal". You say that you DO NOT want to hear biblical justification. Then you ask why "not telling the truth is sinful". Your logic is flawed. For without the law there is no such thing as a "sinful" act.

your sentence contradicted your question. when you do not tell the truth it changes the course of the scenario for instance a nurse asks a Dr. should she use one pill or two if the Dr. knows it is one and says 2 then the patient could die lying is wrong it is a sin and if you are a liar you will not enter heaven the devil is a liar the trueth will always come tru if you tell your mom a lie she always finds out or tell your teacher a lie honesty is the best policy

To tell the truth, is honest . To lie, is dishonest. So judge for youself which is the best. A thief is dishonest.. So why is that so difficult to understand ?? When we find out someone is dishonest, that means we can't trust that person. Not telling the truth is wrong. Would you like for us to say that to tell a lie is the right thing to do ????? What a waste of time. SO TO TELL THE TRUTH, IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!!!

Well sometimes it's not. I lied to save my azz for a while. If I had not lied I would have been in some serious sh it...no I didn't lie to my parents...it's only wrong if you're going to hurt someone with the lie. It's fine for keeping a sacred (like life-death) secret, or to save your skin. Other than that, the lies just break friendships and nobody trusts you.

In general, lying is morally wrong. But it depends on who you are talking to and the situation. I say, if it sits well with your consciences, then it "should" be alright.
Example.
1) You cheated on your girlfriend and say you didn't IS wrong. (You love your girl, why would you cheat and then lied about it. This shouldn't sit well in your mind and its morally wrong!)
2) You tell your child to be good, or Santa won't come this year IS NOT wrong. (Even though you lied about Santa, you know its not morally wrong.)
