There are certain pants you can wear to a wedding. If you are going to wear pants, make sure they are a lot nicer than ones you'd wear to work. Is it an evening wedding? If so, I personally would feel comfortable wearing pants as long as they were evening wear pants. For example, I have a pair of black pants made of a lightweight, flowy fabric and there are a couple of layers of the same fabric covering the pants, sort of like a partial skirt. It may sound weird, but they were actually really pretty. I wore them to the rehearsal dinner for my brother-in-law's wedding, with a top that looked similar to the top for a formal dress. This variety of pants is formal enough to wear to a wedding, because the outfit looks almost like a dress, rather than a casual business outfit.

Also keep in mind, though, that you are the sister of the groom and will probably be expected to dress more formally. You will be in a lot of pictures with the parents, attendants, etc and you will want to blend in well. You may be better off wearing a dress--if it's an evening wedding or if the couple have chosen very formal attire for themselves and their attendants, you could wear a cocktail dress (a formal dress that usually comes about to your knee rather than floor-length). You may want to ask other relatives what they are wearing to get an idea of what would be most flattering and appropriate.
