I had a doberman for thirteen years and he did the same thing, sometimes would even try and bark while sleeping. He was just having some very exciting dreams. If he seizures while awake, then you do have some legitimate concerns. He always slept with the whites of his eyes showing like they were rolled back in his head. By the way, he was by far the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever owned to this day.

Oh that is more likely a "dream". We don't really know if dogs dream like we do, but they do have those involuntary movements and sometimes make noises in their sleep. My dog whimpers in her sleep sometimes. It's probably normal, especially if all else is normal.

Your Doberman is dreaming -- something both canine and human beings do.

He's just dreaming.

Don't wake him up! I woke my cat from his sleep when he was dreaming (eyes moving, twitching whiskers, etc) and he accidentally bit me.

Possibly just dreaming, but if you're really concerned, take him to the vet.
