The epistle writers used the word slave to emphasize their servitude to Christ but epistles are not scripture.

Slavery was very much the norm way back when. So that would explain alot.
Also, when we say we are "slaves to Christ" or "slaves to the Gospel," we understand the connotations. We deicate our lives to our Creator & the accomplishing of His purposes.
More worrisome would be if we were actually TREATED as slaves. We're not. We're free to come & go as we please, within the guidelines.
If you put serious thought into, everyone is a slave to something, even if it's their own minds.
I find it wonderful to be able to choose to serve a Master who's already displayed His love for me, & I have no qualms about serving Him indefinitely.

It was a way of keeping the people under control through the church which was in bed with the dictators of that time. You can still see that crap today if you look

It doesn't require it, it was the norm back in those days. The Bible uses it to illustrate points, since everyone in those days were familiar with slavery.

Because Christians are too afraid to take control of their own lives instead of letting a dusty old book make all of their decisions for them.
