It sure does!! There are a number of different styles of yoga. I would suggest to check: www.yogaalliance.org to find someone that's near you. Also check out www.yogajournal.com for a ton of useful info. Try to find an instructor that fits your personality... there are many out there that present the exact same material very differently.

If it's toning you're looking for, try power, ashtanga (aka astanga), vinyasa (flow of postures that work w/ the breath.) Start out in a beginners class with any one of these. Remember too when you attend a class, other students might have been there for a longer period of time. Only do what you can do, always honour your body... you want to keep progressing, you don't ever want to over do it and extend anything, nor do you ever want to feel pain. A good instructor will show you modifications to different poses (aka asanas). I recommend taking a class more than 1 time /week, you will see the results quicker this way. It would be wonderful if you would be able to develop a daily practice, but that will come with time.

With yoga, it is a whole mind/body/spirit connection. Once you start, you will want to eat better and think more positively about life in general. Through practice all things are possible.

Good luck to you!
Namaste

Yes, yoga and Pilate's will elongate your body and tone your muscles by stretching. Your muscles will become firmer due to the strength you need to keep the positions. And they can both be very relaxing.

Yoga tones your muscles, but if it's real definition and toning that you want, you will get it sooner if you do weight training. I teach yoga and weight train too, yoga is great, but it doesn't compare with weight training for toning. Flexibility yes, stretching yes, toning, some.

yes ofcourse it does help tht way too. coz they are the breathing exercises tht give us the relaxation but the postures yoga provides gives flexibility to ur body and regular practice of these postures will in turn shape up the body.
