Marshmallows have a 90 day shelf life. They stay fresh and soft when kept in a fairly airtight container. But if by chance your bag got left open or somehow got torn and your marshmallows started to get stale, its super easy to bring them back to life! Just put them in a small baggie or micro-safe container and pop them in the microwave for 5 seconds and they will spring back to life. If you leave them in any longer they will begin to melt from the inside out (unless of course that is your desire!).

• To soften hard marshmallows, tightly seal them in a plastic bag with 2 to 3 slices fresh white bread (not French or Italian) and let stand for 3 days.

• Soften them quickly in a microwave oven on high, the timing depends on how many there are. Start with 10 seconds.

I would try placing them on a shallow plate ..with just a little water sprinkled on them ... then place them in the microwave at a very low setting .. like 2 or 3 .. try that for 20 seconds and see how they are .. if it is not enough .. let it go again, for another 20 seconds. A microwave does not work the same way that an oven does. It won't hurt to try it though . Good luck :)

yes b/c a microwave provides heat in the same way an oven would to soften them.

Marshmallows will melt or even burn up before they will freshen up in any way in a microwave oven.
