Many of us don't live by a specific religion. Most of the truly loving people who actually followed the teachings of Jesus that I have met do not claim any particular religion as their own.

Without religion man does not have any purpose in his life or direction. The ultimate destination for some may be hell, as those who have gone astray from the middle path. It brings mankind inner peace to have a relationship with his creator.

Everyone needs something to believe in, even if you grew up knowing one religion, you might not have faith in it. Some people choose a religion when they are ready.

I dont' follow a religion, I follow God and the rules He layed out for me in the bible. Religion is man made for profit of money in my opinion, not for the glory of God.

Mostly it's what you've been taught and how strongly it has been drilled into your mental program.
There are plenty of people who convert because they do not believe what they have previously been following.

Part of it is culture and upbringing. Part of it is seeking God on some kind of level. There is inherent in man a desire to seek some kind of relationship with God. However, unfortunately, too many people try to seek Him on their terms rather than His. Then you get into too many rules and alot of weirdness.
