While I appreciate your point, at least in principle. I think a truck that weighed 5000 lbs. would barely be able to support 750 lbs.

Like a mini Toyota from 1981.

because there are many types of trucks, there are many different functions for expressing the range of weight of the truck as a function of their maximum payload

You could probably gather data on all kinds of trucks and curve fit a quadratic equation to the data which would make it a good estimater for many of the truck configurations, but there would be some points (some trucks) that would not be close to the line that predicted pretty well for most trucks

No. That relationship is not constant. A truck that weighs 5000# may carry between 2000 and 4000#, for example.
