Why has the porn industry grown at exponential speed for the past severeal decades or so? It is astonishing considering we still live in a society where porn is taboo and considered "bad" or "perverted."
But I have to assume there is substantial demand for porn products for the industry to be that big. I am sure the Internet contributed to the growth of the adult industry, too.
Why do you think the porn industry is $ billion, enormously profitable business? Do you believe there should be a curb on controlling the growth of the porn industry by the federal gov.?

Porn became more accessible via the Internet and credit cards.
Above all, porn is free speech and cannot be restricted by the government. Many US corporations deal in porn via 10th degree subsidiaries.

Three inventions were a boom to the porn industry, VHS, DVD, and the Internet. Getting porn out of dirty theatres and into the house was the first step with VHS, then better quality on DVD, and of course with the Internet you can have a new porn movie every night for only dollars a month.
Why has it grown? Because our society is sexually repressed and therefore obsessed with sex. Especially the sex other people are having. Because of this people indulge their fantasies in private through movies and the Internet. If everyone was having more sex, and better sex, then porn would not hold the allure it does for so many.
And no, the Federal Government shouldn't control the porn industry, they'll screw it up like everything else they touch. LOL Plus, it is censorship, plain and simple.

Porn is such a viable industry for the same reason that AIDS is becoming a global epidemic and why the internet is unsafe for children. People are no damn good. Sorry to say that, but the facts seem to speak for themselves. it doesn't matter how pious or upstanding people appear, inside we are all driven by the same powerful biological urges. Porn preys on these weaknesses. its just a fact of life. Porn has been around probably since prehistoric man figured out how to mark a cave wall with charcoal. Probably was one of the first things he drew. Government control of porn would ultimately result in the same failure as was prohibition. Turning to God...will this prevent it? Doubt it. Like anything else, it appeals to a large audience of men (and some women too). Its crude, but effective human entertainment.
People need to learn to take porn with a grain of salt. Id rather have my kids watch a man and a woman having sex on camera then have my kids watch someone cut open and die a horrible death in a movie. Its funny because you can see the latter on regular TV. But imagine a breast on TV...oh the indecency!
People need to loosen up over this. Everyone wants to protect their kids from the "graphic and horrible" internet. Fine... thats YOUR job. Don't let them see it. That doesn't mean it can't exist because your not watching your kid! Its a buisness like everything else.

the reason y the porn industry is successful is because it appeals to a basic human desire. Sex. also the government cannot directly inter-fair with the market place. if people did not want porn then the industry would not be profitable.

Supply and demand is why it's a multi-billion dollar industry. And you're right, the internet made it really easy for anyone to have access to pornographic material.
I don't think banning it will work, but maybe some type of "sin tax" similar to the ones we levy on alcohol and tobacco can be used to raise government revenue.
