I think it's more her age than the fact that you are pregnant. Up to a certain point, babies smile and coo at everyone, but then they develop stranger anxiety. It is fairly typical for a baby her age to cling to mama. She may begin to outgrow this when she is about 18 months. However, when you actually have the baby, you can expect her to return to this clingy, demanding behavior when she realizes she has to compete for your attention. It's tough to balance the needs of two babies so close in age when they are very young. However, it makes it easier for them to be friends.

No, at this point, she doesn't know. Don't worry about her being clingy. That's very typical of the 10-12 month age group. You're going to beat the problem that a lot of moms have when they have three or four years between children, because the first one won't be jealous of the new baby. She won't remember a time when the 'new' baby wasn't part of the family and they'll grow up almost like twins. Tough on you, but great for the kids!

I heard it's true, a baby CAN sense that you're pregnant. I have four kids and the middle two are only ten months apart. My baby seemed to be more attached to me during the pregnancy. My family is big on old school myths and I remember hearing my grandmother talk about this subject.

It is normal for a small child that does not understand about pregnancy to cling to a woman that is pregnant. My son was like that when I was pregnant with my daughter and he was about 15 months when I got pregnant. It is kind of like animals can sense when an earthquake is going to happen. They can just sense something is different, but they don't know what it is.

I honestly don't think my first child new I was pregnant until the baby came. She was two when her little sister was born and I'd rub my tummy and tell her mommy was having a baby sister for her and she'd look at me like that is nice mommy now watch me run in a circle! I don't think my pregnancy effected her I made sure she was my priority and my husband made sure to include her in everything we did/do for the baby. I chose to wait though until she was two so she could better understand. I am not sure how it will differ for a younger baby.

Good luck

Your 10 and half month baby does not understand that you are pregnant - usually around 9 months or so separation anxiety sets in - a lot of babies are really attached to mom and need the extra assurance that they are safe.

I guess it's possible that your baby senses something's wrong/different, she just can't comprehend what. My (step) sister started acting funny around the time her mom got pg again, but before they announced it, and she was 4. My cats (my oldest in particular) got weird when I got pg.

If she's sensing it, make sure you give her a lot of reassurance that you're still there to care for her. She's too young to feel jealous but even though you'll need time for yourself now, too, she still needs just as much attention from you as before.

Take a pregnancy test and stop reproducing if you can't even figure that out!
