Well, for one, that was long before Jesus. Under the old law it wasn't hard to get sentenced to death. I could say "Yahweh" and I'd be put to death.
There were thousands of years of conditioning.
Two, they were worshipping a golden calf. Not very long after God had just freaking freed them from the Pharoah, parting the ocean for them, drowned the egyptians coming after them, put all kinds of plagues on egypt until they'd let the hebrews go. Put a huge pillar of fire between them and the hebrew. God had done all this and less than a month later they'd already forgot about him and said: "F this, Let's go back to Egypt, and lets start worshipping a golden freaking calf". God's not a punk. He's forgiving, but he had to make an example. Those people who rejected God so easily did not fit into the new world that was being built. Was it violent? Hell yeah it was violent. The world is a violent place. I'd like to say be glad it's not like that now, but it still is. Just in different ways.
David slew Goliath with a sling and a stone by the way.
Personally, I don't see mohammed being attacked. As far as I know, that guy's dead. Muslims today who blow up buildings and people, and little kids, and all kinds of horrible ish. They're aren't killing people for worshipping false idols. Christians, Jews, and Muslims all believe in the one God. So, they are attacking us for what?? I'm not saying christians are totally innocent, nor the jews.
We're all in this together. Yet no Jew is going to accept mohammed if they didn't listen to Christ(the ones that don't I mean), and I'm certainly not going to deny Christ.
It's a horrible mess. God's commandment was clear, LOVE. I don't see much love here. The only place I see love, is when I look to God. I try to spread that among other people, but it only goes so far. Eventually they deny me, just like they denied him. People are pretty misunderstanding when it comes to selfless love.

Obviously because we re at the sharp end of the sword :)
Others will say that it's about human wrights and innocent lives, and they have a good point there.
Truth is that Mohamed's war is just as bad as David's and any other war that has been fought throughout the course of history in the name of any or against any religion. Sad part is there will always be more then one religion on this earth and so there will always be tension that will manifest in all forms from fights between 2 individuals to wars with thousands of casualties.
We should either learn to all respect each others religions and faiths and put a stop to this OR bomb all human kind to oblivion because as years pass by we are proving again and again that we are unworthy to be the dominant species on this planet.

Quote: "There were lots of things done in historical times that are neither applicable nor appropriate for modern times. It is no longer appropriate, sane, civilized or acceptable to kill people who do not believe as you do. Those who do so have to be stopped for the good of all mankind."
So Americans (who as a whole represent Christianity and Judaism) and Israelis (who are Jewish) have some sort of exemption from these morals when they kill and torture religious extremists along side numerous innocent civilians? This war on terror is seen abroad as a war on anyone who is not a "democracy" (Americans invented it, yet we've perfected the ability to convince people that we're not actually a totalitarian capitalist society) or as a war against those who do not hold Christian or Jewish beliefs. What is the difference between us and them? I challenge you to take a step back and try to see America as the other 80% of the world does. Unfortunately, you may not like what you see.

I am going to take your question seriously instead of giving you some curt or witty or jokey answer. I think it may have benefited the Isrealites to NOT have killed the people who were caught worshiping the calf when Moses came off the mountain with the commandments. I think seeing the way others live is instructive in the negative and in the positive. If parents are attempting to raise kids to lead Godly lives, one of the places they turn for instruction is to the lives of the unGodly. They point out to their children what is missing from the lives of the unGodly. I think it is easier to live right when you can look around and see the consequences of living wrong. In the Old Testament, the prophets again and again have to remind the Isrealites to return to living Godly lives. Maybe, if those original calf worshippers had been allowed to live, the way their lives worked out (or did not work out as the case may be) would have been instructive to the other Isrealites and there would have been less backsliding in the Isrealite community overall. Infidels teach the Godly a lot of things. . . the consequences of an unGodly life, the beauty of forgiveness and redemption (when infidels turn around), compassion. I think the experience of God's love would be less rich for the Godly if there were no infidels.
Signed,
An Apostate

Because Moses didn't lead the Jews from Egypt to be Baal worshipers, Nor did David lead the Armies of the Jews against the Jews. The last True Prophet Said that if a man strikes you on the left cheek turn the right one to him also. He also said that if a Man Forces you to carry his cloak for one mile, Then carry it for him two miles.
See the difference?
Death and destruction will follow all of those who attack the Innocent.

This is a touchy subject, to say the least.
It's a command, in the Qur'an. However, it is within the context of war.
HOWEVER, many Muslims believe they ARE at war - with Christians, other countries, etc.
SO, when Muslim leaders announce a Jihad against the US, it's citizens, & allies, Muslims - both peaceful & terrorist - are bound by the Fatwah.
In American society, people have many problems with these orders. Namely, most of us didn't have anything to do with the occupation of Muslim nations.
I don't like being punished for something I didn't do, nor had any control over.

Apparently you need to read the Bible a bit more closely if you are going to make reference to it..I recall no prophets going to war to convert anyone to what they were saying.. they may have tried to defend themselves but there were no warrior prophets (other than Muhammad). His only purpose was to dominate other countries and make them convert to his belief or die by the sword. Just as is being called for by the mullahs of today.
If you would take to trouble of reading Revelations, you would find some pretty good similarities. Particularly when getting to the 4th horseman on a green horse. Pretty well describes Islam, as is being conducted in our present time. Makes one also wonder how one can be killed by death... doesn't it? But we are seeing it taking place almost daily. If you don't understand that reality, get in touch with me and we will be happy to clarify it for you.

No, Goliath and his people (the Philistines, I think) wanted to kill the Jews. Seems to be a popular trend throughout history, come to think of it (wanting to kill the Jews). I guess we're just hard to get rid of!

You muslims must have a different version of the torah than what I rad a few years ago. But then, mohammed did lie and cheat and change scriptures and laws to get what he wanted, which was pretty much just wealth, and sex.
