I asked this yesterday and i got 50/50 on the answers. So it depends on how you ask. I am an Orthodox Catholic and the Roman Catholic Church states that praying is talking. We pray to God, to Jesus, to Mary, to the saints and even to dead relatives that we think may be in Heaven. We can pray (talk) to anyone. But only God answers our prayers. If I pray the rosary to Mary, I am talking to her and asking her her help, her intercession to God. It's like if you asked me to pray for you because you are having surgery tomorrow. You will be praying and I will praying that the surgery is successful and recovery is fast and painless. If you pray to Mary or a saint and ask them to pray for you (to intercede for you) they will pray to God on your behalf or along with your prayers.
Of course you will probably get all different answers, especially from other Christians. Webster dictionary states prayer is an earnest request or wish. By all definition of the word "prayer", we are talking to that person in Heaven. And they are talking to God for us. Who better to personally talk to God than the people that are already in Heaven. When people say (and it's in the bible) that the only way to the Father is through Jesus, they are correct. We can't get to Heaven to be with God unless we believe that Jesus is His only begotten Son who died for us. It does not mean that we can only pray to Jesus and no one else.
I hope this makes sense. But after reading all the answers it's up to you to discern what it the true answer. God bless!

People pray to different things. Africans worship nature, lightning, animals. So does Native Americans(so called "Indians").
In history people worshiped thunder and lightning as they considered it to be a source of rain. which helped man in sustenance of life. Native americans prayed to mother earth and father sky. During Indus valley and Harappan culture people worshipped sun and moon.

No. You can pray to the saints in heaven or to the Blessed Virgin Mary but that's only like asking then to interceed for us to God.
God is the only One that is worshipped

Yes it is. Worship is a personal experience. Whatever you pray to, it is the entity that you yourself believe is the highest entity of them all.
Some call it God, others Yahweh, still others Buddha or Allah or Ammon-Ra or...
Worship is personal. Period.

Of course. You can worship anything, it doesn't have to be a "god".
