From the very beginning the UN has been useless. This in my view is due to the fact that corrupt individuals like Annan are put in charge. And to the Bush hater, this has been the case long before George Bush was in the picture. Just check out the voting that has gone on in UN for the past twenty years. You find that the French, the Russians (Soviet Union), China and others have consistently undermined the USA. These three are the worst offenders. And no, I am not saying that the USA is always right. But when the crap hits the fan, who has to clean up the mess? The Three aforementioned have never helped clean up. They have just helped the situation get worse. And if we have to go after Iran, a country that sworn itself to the destruction of the USA do you think that they will help? Hell no.

I can not believe how many people out there follow the pacifists like a bunch of lemings. No one in there right mind wants to kill anyone else. But sometimes we are forced into just that. When those of us that believe in and love our freedom are all gone it is you that will be at the mercy of the corrupt. It is you who will cry over the raped broken bodies of your cowardly brotheren. DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD THAT DO NOT THINK LIKE YOU! THEY WANT YOU DEAD! HEAR THAT? DEAD.These people would slit the throat of your children, rape your wives and sisters and inslave the rest of you. I would rather not see that happen. How about you? Bush is not perfect. I think that he is an idiot at times myself, but he is no coward. How about you? Do you understand what needs to be done? Do you have the guts for it? Have you learned nothing from history? We were attacked by Muslims. We did not attack them. They attacked us. The world trade center was hit twice. Remember that? They did not stop until they destroyed it and every man, woman AND CHILD in it! And what about the planes involved? We have no more cheeks to turn.

They are not like us. They hate us!

I am not sure that it has ever had any respect. In fact I am not sure what it does or stand for. The countries involved never seem to agree and I think this is because some of them do not like each other. This therefore stops them acting in a proper and rational manner which is no good to anyone. Bush or any American puppet president totally ignores the UN in any event. It is about time the UN was abolished.

Yes. The UN is more corrput than any corporation could ever be.
Libya on the human rights committee? What a joke.
They lay out sanctions but don't enforce those sanctions.
They have a bunch of 3rd world know-nothings living it up in NY and the US while trashing us Americans but trying to tell freedom loving countries how they can operate better. Most of them are socialists who's countries contribute little to the world.
Get the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN NOW!!!!!

The UN serves the purpose of a sounding board and allows member nations to voice their opinions. It does not however; seem to have the strength to take any specific action.
The credibility of the UN, our government, and any other government is lost when their charter is ignored. Had Bush listened to the UN we would not be in the mess we are now. World leaders told Bush he was wrong but he elected to take us to war in spite of the wisdom of others and the UN. His grudge war has lost us the lives of many good men and women and crippled many more. Bin Luadin – yes; we had justification to go after him. And had we spent our resources in bringing him to justice we would now have it over. Going to war in Iraq though was only a grudge and a way for Bush’s string pullers to relive the past.

We cannot act as the world's monitor, and claim a moral high ground that doesn't exist, and expect to be believed or trusted. If we can't treat our own better than this, we are truly lost. Capitalism is a driving force for healthy growth and a free market economy. But that growth must be balanced by a sense of compassion and humanity. Without that balance, the same conditions that drive so many desperate people to join our enemies will come into play here. If it hasn't already.

So in short you have to have respect for others before they can respect you.

I'm not sure the U.N. ever had all that much respect. The U.N. has always been a sideline judge. Every time the U.N. has a resolution and the country that it is against doesn't honor it, the U.N. just keeps making more and nothing gets done. A good example is the genocide in Bosnia and now in Sudan. I think more people have died by genocide since the inception of the U.N. than did in WWII.

Yes. It's a whorehouse of spies and a showcase for dictators. Every nation with a member on the "UN Commission for Human Rights" is a dictatorship that tortures its own citizens, for example.

It's another League of Nations, a talking society that can't do anything right.

What has the UN ever done about genocide in Africa, for example?

There have been people in the US who have wanted to get out of the UN from the time it was formed. No one has respect for UN resolutions, because the UN does not enforce them. It is a paper tiger.

I'm not sure the UN ever had all that much credibility to begin with. It is better to have a UN than not, but this organization is barley better!

do a little research and you will find the UN has never made any conflict better they have only helped to exagerate existing problems. the UN's ultimate goal is to destroy all other governments and become the ruling body of the world. GET THE U.S. OUT OF THE UN
