yes when it is almost time to have the baby. hormones make it soft. and the opening is called dialation and the thinning is called effacement.

Yes it does, but this is usually not noticible until the third trimester. The cervix does have to soften and begin to dilate in preparation for delivery. If it starts doing that earlier, the obstetrician may need to intervene.

your cervix opens when you are in labor and ready to have a child. That is called dilating. It should not open before then.
