A wedding favour is a small gift you leave on the tables at the reception as a gift to your guests. My wife and I had chocolate bar wrappers with our picture and date of the wedding and who was in the wedding... most people just wrap up some herseys kisses in something and put a tag on the top with the bride and grooms name

They are tokens handed out to wedding guests as a small remembrance of the occasion.
Some examples are, a small bag of candies, sometimes a few Jordan Almonds tied in a piece of netting.
Perhaps some hand made silk flowers, made be members of the bride's family.
It may be a photograph of the bride and groom, as children.
I know of one couple who gave everyone one of those disposable cameras, so all could take their own pictures.
Of course, jars of bubble liquid for people to use instead of throwing rice.

Wedding favours are like goodie bags you give out at kids birthday party. It is a little gift you give to each of your gifts. Wedding gifts can be candles, candy, wine anything. Usually you pick something out that goes along with your wedding theme.

Wedding favors are little gifts that the bridal couple sometimes gives to guests who attend their wedding/reception. Not all couples do this. Those who do give wedding favors might give anything from matchbooks with their names and the wedding date printed on them, to candy bars or rolls of candy LifeSavers with similar messages. Really rich couples might give more expensive favors ... engraved writing pens, clocks, perpetual calendars, silver picture frames with their engagement photo, etc. There is nothing that says a couple HAS to give these tokens to their guests, but if they can afford it, it is a nice touch.

They are those annoying little 'gifts' that the bride and groom give to guests. Usually sugared almonds in a small net bag. I think it is more acceptable to just buy your guests a drink and forget about the favours

usually a waste of money that end up in the trash. if you HAVE to do them - think wisely. candy bars wrapped in a special wedding wrapper are popular with the guests. favors are not mandatory except in some cultures. with all the blending of ethnic groups, more and more people are doing them but -- if you don't know about them - they are not popular n your area or culture so don't waste your money or start a new trend ; )
**about the M&M's - yeah went to a wedding with them. i'd flown home and wassasatying with my folks, i asked my mom if she'd noticed the m&m's - she said yeah they were white but didn't taste any different - she never knew what was written on them - it was pretty funny!!!
