Hi there... on the contrary they are unequivocably clever. I train both domestic felines and the larger exotic wild cousins (e.g. bobcats, cougars, african servals, etc). Although, all felines are very independent all are more than willing to learn new behaviours that we commonly see dogs learn. It's just that as humans we need to learn the proper techniques to train and put behaviours on cue in order to achieve the same results seen with dogs. My domestic cats know the following commands: sit, down, shake, roll over, jump through a hoop, take apart a 3-D pyramid puzzle, walk on a leash and do so much...even use a human toilet! Something many of my clients wish their dogs could learn to do too. Our exotic cats can open their mouth on command so we can inspect their gums and teeth...they can back up on command to give us their tail to draw blood for monthly exams and so much more. The reason exotic felines are trained cooperative behaviours is two-fold: it is safer and healthier than to use anaesthesia and it offers them more mental stimulation through positive training, which keeps them easier and safer to manage. House cats can benefit from this training as well.

Anyhow, nearly any animal can be trained to learn new behaviours based on their own naturaly abilities including cats. If goldfish can be taught to go through a hoop, play soccer and more why not a mouse, rat, rabbit, guinnea pig and certainly a cat--which all of these animals can learn.

My cat is.....why does he come in through the window when I leave the door open for him. Also he is just like an old person he stops when in the doorway and you can see he is thinking "now do I go through or shall I...." But I add that I love him for all his stupid ways

The only reason why you hate cats is because they beat you up at the flag pole after school. Cats Rules!!!!

Any animal no matter what breed is only as smart as its owner and the time it spends with the animal actually teaching it something.

SO if you have something you think is stupid, dumb or whatever, go look in the mirror.
