The birthday is on Nov 10. The ball is usually the weekend before or after. Each unit/base does theirs at a different time. And yes it is a time to celebrate how great we are and how great Marines have been in the past. A time to remember all the sacrifices Marines have made.
Daveh: Marines don't wear tuxes they wear their uniform. Either Blues or Alphas.

Each city has a different day and time. The Marine Corps Birthday is November 10th and many times a Marine Corps league Detachment will celebrate the birthday will a "ball", a semi/ formal celebration generally with dinner and possibly dancing. Sometimes a lower keyed celebration will be held.
You can search using these key words... usmc birthday ball and the name of your town, or the largest city near you.
You can also search like this... Marine Corps League Detachment (San Jose CA) and their website will appear and then look for current events.
Their birthday ball will be on November 10th as it falls on a Friday this year.

It's a way the Marines can parade around, bragging about how great they are. Everyone wears a tux or evening dress, a large dinner is served and there are lots of speeches. Much like a policical fund raiser.
