Every few seconds-minutes I get this really sharp pain in my chest/stomach area, right below where my bra hits. I woke up yesterday morning with this and it is scaring me. Sometimes when I breathe it also hurts, and the sharp pain sometimes goes back into my back in the same area. I dont know what this is-- anyone have ideas? I am thinking a muscle spasm or something? HELP!!!!

A rib on my back on the right side does hurt...so I could have bruised it, but I dont know if that would affect the sharp pains in my stomach/chest area?

I'm not exactly sure but have you ever had any sort of neck injury?Just wondering ,cause when I was a kid I was in gymnastics and landed on the back of my neck .I'm not sure if it was related but for many years after that I had a sharp pain in that same spot and it hurt to breathe in . Not all of the time, it would come and go. My mom was too scared to take mo to a doc.She thinks if she pretends things are not there they go away ha ha . Anyways it felt almost like a bubble would pop when I took a really deep breath . It hurt really bad to take a deep breath. After the popping sensation the sharp pain would be gone, till the next episode.

First, if you're wearing an underwire bra, it might be the bra itself. Did the underwire break? Next, is it on the left or right side, or is it more concentrated to the center of your chest? If it's in the center of your chest, it sounds like it's your sternum, (your breastbone). On either side, it might be something to do with your lungs.(If you're under about 30, this shouldn't be a concern at all, since most lung and breathing ailments happen later in life.) If you're a runner or you engage in alot of heavy cardio workouts, you might have stressed something; rest for a day or two. You might have slept on something hard, or you might have a spring coming out of your mattress that's poking you. It might just be that you were sleeping on your chest. If you are particularly busty, sleeping on your chest could have elevated you just enough that you irritated your sternum. The fact that it started after you woke up is your first clue. The main thing is that if you feel you are having dificulty breathing, like you aren't getting enough air, or if you're coughing alot, and it's flecked with blood, it's extremely important that you go to the hospital right away.
Good Luck

Well, I dont know what your's is because I am not you. But my chest did that for three days straight, it turned into an anxiety attack to where I couldn't breath or take a deep breath for hours. Went to the hospital and I was told I had a mild heart attack brought on by stress.

Do yourself a favor..better safe than sorry..GO TO THE DOCTORS!

I get these too.If they dont happen too often and if they happen just for a minute or so, don't worry about it.It's a muscle spasm.Or it may be the wrong kind of bra, lol.If It's something more serious, definetly see a doctor immeadiatly. It can be a broken rib or something worse.

I am afraid the best I can personally recommend is a doctor's visit at once...if this becomes completely intolerable...a visit to the Emergency Room would be recommended...however, this should be your last option.

I would recommend calling the office of your General Practicioner and seeing if they have an Emergency Number.

A phone call to your local Hospital might help ease any fears as well...the number can be found in your local Phone Directory.

Sure you didn't break a rib? Seriously, it can happen easier than we think. Get to the doctor for an x-ray asap. Chest pains or pains in the region you describe should not be ignored.

It could be several things;
A strained muscle or a broken rib (do you play contact sports?),
Or could be due to diet/heart burn,
What type of bra do you wear, is an underwire broken and caused this?
This could also be more serious and at the top of the scale is heart attack,
Go see a doctor, for your sake.

It could be anything from muscle spasm to indigestion. The best thing for you to stop worrying is to see what the doctor has to say about it.

check to see if you are running a fever.
if so GO TO THE DOC.
it could be just gas trapped and slowly moving through.
But it could be other things too..
If it isnt better within a day or gets worse...GO to the Doc!
