well i just got engaged and my fiance called my mom to set up a time to ask my dad and it was her job to keep me away so i wouldnt know..... i think its up to how close she and you are to the parentals.... and people DO still ask the parents.. its respectful and makes you a real man. to have enough courage to face a man w/ a daughter and ask to take his daughter in marriage..... its very respectful and i admire any man that will do this..... i'd say evaluate the family situation... talk to the mom about asking her dad or include her mom too if u can get your girlfriend away for long enough...

I think that is so sweet, and i hate that most people don't do it anymore, I think you should ask both parents, but I kind of like the idea of just asking the father, maybe you could do them at separate times, and then you all talk afterward or something. Good luck, and congrats!

I guess it would depend on the family situation. If your girlfriend is particularly close with both of her parents you should ask both of them. I personally would want to ask in front of both the mom and the dad. Just in case the Dad tripps out, the Mom can calm him down and keep him in line. That's just my opinion. Well, if the parents are still together I would tell them at the same time. If they are separated, I would still include telling the mother. It shows that your respect both of the parents.

I think it's respectful to her mother to include her in the asking, in the ceremony her father will reply to the question "Who gives this bride" "Her Mother and I", so yeah both parents need to be there when you ask.
