Alchohol is a nerve depressant and so your nerves(your shyness) and your inhibitions are calmed and you can enjoy yourself without worrying about how you come across. It is why people drink, for that feeling of calm and confidence.Just make sure you leave it there.Beyond that point lies danger.

Everywhere it goes in your body does the same thing slows everything down. As soon as alcohol enter in your body the liver starts breaking it down, since alcohol can't be stored in the organism like lipids, proteins and others it s starts flowing through the blood stream until it can be processed by the liver, but in doing so it spreads all around the body. since the brain is well irrigated with blood it is the first to be influenced by alcohol.
The order in witch alcohol impaired functioning is from the most advanced functions to the basics so the order is something like this:
1 inhibitions and the ability to have second thoughts
2 gives courage or rather u don't feel fear in circumstances in which you normally would
3 fine move coordination impaired
4 impaired judgment u take decisions way different that you normally would
5 sight impaired - blurry vision
6 some personality modifications
7 move coordination and locomotive function impaired
8 memory function - u wake up next morning and u don't remember half the party :p
9 problems with breathing and slower heart beating
10 coma
11 DEATH

the numbers 2-5 may occur in slightly different order.
my advice is stop at number 7 that is if your not planning on driving otherwise stop at 1 or 2 or better yet stick to juice :P

As you drink alcohol it affects the portion of your brain that involves, among other things, inhibition. You're shy because you consciously want to be due to past situations that caused you to make a decision not to be affected in that way again. By drinking alcohol, which is a depressant, you're affecting the brain chemically. You're not a different person when you drink alcohol, you're just prevented from thinking with the clarity of a mind that's not under the influence of alcohol. You have it within to be the person you think you are when you drink without having to drink alcohol to do it. You just need the confidence in yourself and your friends to do it.

Alchohol is called liquid courage for a reason. It is a ctually a depressant which slows down the brain and reduces inhibitions. The brave people in life learn how to be inhibited without the use of external help such as pills or drinks.

I don't know the medical/clinical reason, but it definitely releases inhibitions. I was the same way when I was younger. I used to be quite shy, but after a couple of drinks I let go and then didn't know when to stop..drinking that is. I was never an alchoholic, but could have become one if I hadn't matured when I did. I'm just saying don't let alcohol become a crutch for social anxiety. I wonder if some people become alcholics that way.

People generally are quite well acquainted with what benefits are attributed to alcohol, for instance enjoyment of temporary happiness, strength increase of a short time, colour becomes clearer, initially (as to some medical claim).

Compared to the few limited benefits of alcohol its risks and harms are so varied that, perhaps so many disadvantages may not be present in any other thing.

1. Through alcohol, the stomach gradually loses its ability to function properly.
2. Causes loss of appetite.
3. It spoils ones facial features (Appearance)
4. Makes one age quicker.
5. Weakens and reduces the ability to think and speak properly.
6. Causes heart failure
7. The progeny of alcohol are weaker.
8. Creates fights and enmity between people
9. Leads towards grave sins, often adultery and murder are the direct results of drinking.
10. Thousands of pounds are wasted in this vice

Alcohol is detrimental to your health especially your liver. Alcohol befogs the mind and prevents rational thinking. Alcohol causes road accidents and innocent lives lost. Alcohol increases the occurance of domestic violence. Alcohol addiction causes financial ruin.

at the end of the day you only live once! i am drunk at the moment and feel like i am the shyest person around, i have been quiet all night. you are what you want to be. if you want to be loud then there must be a motive for it. i tend to be louder when I'm drunk! so maybe it is not alcohol that relaxes you but your true emotions?!?!

it is a CNS depressant it stops the part of your brain that says "no that is a bad idea" from working in your case perhaps you need to look at ways of overcoming the part of your brain saying "this is a bad idea I'm shy and scared" when your sober because shyness can be overcome but alcohol encourages mistakes you wouldn't make sober

A drunk mouth speaks a sober mind. All of the things that you want to say and do but are too afraid to do , the alcohol relaxes you and lets it all come out.

Yes, it numbs the brain. Alcohol actually kills brain cells. But go on drinking socially and let your hair down...part way.
