"But that was another country...and besides, the b**ch is dead"

I have seen/heard this quote used and/or parodied in several places, but none of these give the source.

I think it a mis-quoted line from the Wizard of Oz.

Dorothy waking after the dream (back in B&W) says to her Brothers ."....But that was another country... and besides the WITCH is dead...."

But I could be wrong!

its from alane saliero mason's "A Comedy With Animals"

tp://bostonreview.net/BR26.1/mason.html

the exact quote is:

"To Jane, from her affectionate pupil with undistorted affection and many happy returns of some other day in another country and the wench is never dead."
