No, not here in another part of Southern California. My job did that day. I was working for Sears' Collections & Customer Service department. Everyone got sent home. They tried to call everyone who's shifts were starting soon to stay home. I called in to find out. We got the day off unpaid. I had vacation time so I used that for pay. The next day, several cities & states weren't on the calling schedule. If any came through that got missed by accident, we made apologies to the customers we spoke to. I believe they were given 2 weeks before we could call again for a late payment. If we got an answering machine, we used a code to remove it for the time period.
September 11th SHOULD be a national holiday now. It's been 5 years & Bushwhacker Jr could put it through very easily.
Oh wait. He's a lying Republican. He won't bother.

Our school (Here in MO) stayed open, but I know that some in NY closed down early simply due to the disaster and b/c of high-risk of other attacks.

No proper State Government would ever close down schools because of some silly Terrorist attack. :)
Closing schools during the day makes no sense at all, it would cause more problems than it would resolve, even if it did happen that there was a "National-offense".

Not all the schools did, because the students at my school were even asking if we could. I think it would have been a good thing, especially for people who had loved ones that died that day. I think you may be one of the few schools that got out that day. You are so lucky!!!

My daughter attended school in Wisconsin Dells, WI. and spent the whole day in each class with a television on. This was at the high school, I don't know how they handled it in the elementary and middle school. She remembers the exact class she was in when the news broke.

Not in southern California. Small town in the middle of nowhere, but we had a volleyball game in Lancaster. Nobody closed down there.
Also, many colleges and universities closed.

No schools in Texas shut down as far as I know. Ours sure didn't. I don't think any did unless they were directly affected by the attacks (i.e. littered with debris).

In Charleston, South Carolina they did. They locked our school down and everyone's parents had to come get us all.
