The main London postal areas are:
WC - West Central
EC - East Central
W - West
NW - North-West
N - North
E - East
SE - South-East
SW - South-West
The full post code will begin with the above letter(s). However there are large parts of outer London which are not in a "London" postal area, such as Enfield (EN), Croydon (CR), Twickenham (TW), Uxbridge (UB), Harrow (HA) etc etc. Confused? You should be!

Danechip is wrong the area code for London is 020 or 20 if calling from outside the UK. From Canada younosygit is correct. Londoners still sometime class their number of 020& or 0208 (sometime 0203) but the code for London is 020 followed by an eight digit local number. If code starts 07 then it is a mobile phone and you need to be careful as the cost for calling a mobile in the UK is borne by the caller not the owner of the phone.
