Last year I claimed an abandoned dog (who i called Max). I would like to know what he is? Ive looked at tons of pics. on the net but not found a similar dog (they seem common though). He is small in height, all black in colour (same hight as a jack russell but 'bulkier') but not like a staffy.
I now that's vague but id love to know what he is (i should have asked the vet when he had a check-up!).
Also any advice on tips on looking after him - He's a great friend.

He's probably a crossbreed - a mix of breeds. They often make great pets and tend not to have the problems that can be associated with certain pedigree dogs. this site has lots of tips on looking after dogs:

I have no idea what breed he is, have you ever asked your vet, he can do a blood test for you, whatever breed he is he sounds just beautiful and he is very well loved and adored by you and that in any dogs life is a fantastic thing, you love your Max forever.

Probably a mongrel , sir.

Not that there is anything wrong with mongrels,

I used to have a cross Border collie with a Doberman it was one of the best dogs I have ever had.

I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier now.

"i dont take in strays cause i dont know what they are i usually have purebreeds "

How sad. All dogs have their merits, not just purebred ones.
I personally take in all dogs because I regard myself as a dog lover, not a breed snob.
Even our Royal family see the pleasure in mixed breeds and own several of them, from Princess Anne's lurchers, to the Queen's 'Dorgies' (corgi X dachshund)

well you have had him for a year and you have bonded well iam happy for you. hes a lucky dog. you could always take him back to the vet if a good vet he wont charge you for just asking his breed, in my experience the mongrels are the most clever dogs. we had mainly sbt in the 80s before they became fashionable. so i wouldnt have another dog now as its too stressful, i have seen our dogs attack others and others been attacked by sbts!
