I have been hiding away in my parents house since i was about 21 I'm now 24, since leaving university because I couldnt do presentations I have stopped seeing old friends and even relatives. Last xmas I spent the majority of the day when friends and relatives where round.

I also have a thing about crouds I cant go into them if i do I have a natural feeling of getting the hell out of there.

In the last week I have been waking up and crying for no reason what so ever and staring into oblivion. I have also in the past woke up just staring into the walls.

Recently I have been trying for job interviews but cant concentrate on them fully as my mind is elsewhere.

I made an appointment on friday to see a Doc on Monday and I'm quite worried what to say on monday when the time comes.

Dear VernHead

You have done the right thing by making an appointment to see your doctor. Everyone is right in saying you should just say exactly what you have written here because it speaks volumes.

You have already described sleep disturbance, excessive worrying, feelings of panic and anxiety, distress and tearfulness, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, social withdrawal concentration and planning problems and anxiety about how you present to the outside world.

Your doctor will carry out further assesment to look at how long you have been feeling like this and perhaps to find some of the triggers. By the look of things you seem clinically depressed but I am sure your doctor will know better when s/he sees you and will offer some options for treatment.

Take care and all the best.

Just tell him all that you told us. Why not print it out and show him?

Maybe you have agoraphobia, or maybe depression, but don't worry, the doctor will know what will be best for you. I think you should maybe ask his advice about learning relaxation techniques in addition to anything else he suggests. Can you think of anything that may have triggered these feelings of fear and insecurity in you? Think back to when you first felt like that. It may help your doctor if you can give him that information.

Try to relax about the job interviews and just see them as a chance to meet some new people and have a chat for a while. I always think I will either get the job or I won't get it, and if I don't get it, there'll be something else soon. Good luck.

I really agree with the first respondent - print this out and hand it to your doctor. You have so perfectly and succinctly said what you're feeling that I can't imagine being able to say it better verbally. After your doctor reads this, he/she will probably have a set up questions ready that are specific to your issue. It will open up a great dialogue.

I think you have been very brave to even make the appointment! It really sounds like this has been tormenting you so it is a HUGE step to do something about it. I think you're halfway cured already! Good luck with everything. I hope you get the answers you need.

just tell the doc what you have wrote here, tell him you have a problem with crowds, tell him how you feel when placed in that situation, how you cry for no reason, lack of concentration etc, you wont be the 1st person who has ever felt like this, is it talking in public that bothers you? i cant read aloud, talk on the phone (only to friends) or even go onto a stage, it sounds like you need a confidence boost.
whatever you tell the doctor won't go any further and he/she will not think any less of you for telling them how you feel, so if it is really bothering you, make sure you tell the doc everything so they can find the best solution. good luck

You have done a great job of explaining your problem here. This is what you should tell your doctor too.
Give your doctor some information about you, and your doctor should be trained to make a diagnosis based on that information.
You can download a free form called Little Giri here
http://drchander.com/printable_and_download_versions.html
Fill the form and take it with you for your doctor's appointment. This will give you the opportunity to type in the important information that will help your doctor help you.
Best of luck!

Hello there do please try to stop worrying, you will be just fine when you see your Dr honestly, you wont have to say much just what you have said in your question is fine, your Dr is trained to pick up on these things, but are very depressed but that's OK,it's quite easy to treat with antidepressants,if it will help you can always write down how you feel, then you wont have tell him he will have the info he needs and you can talk it through with him or her, but you must go and see him and he's not going to eat you,i really wish you well i know that it's OK for me to say don't worry, but it's not for you so try and chill out a bit,and talk to someone, even if it's on your computer, good luck on Monday but all will be just fine and i hope you feel much better very soon

hello,
I'm not very familiar with this but.... a friend of mine has agriaphobia(i think that's spelled right). he was afraid of people. He pretty much stayed in the house unless absolutely necessary. He could drive to the store or doctors but was scaried and was jumpy around people when he left the house. He was on medication, but for that i'm not sure. You need to ask the doctor, so be honest and as specific as possable about all the reactions you have to situations you find your self in.
Best of luck
God bless

Tell him everything you have posted here.

After that, a good doctor will know the type of questions to ask to get the information needed to recommend treatment.

Don't forget that treatment may mean being sent to another doctor, one with the training and experience to best help you.

In fact, print out the page where your question is posted, and bring it to the doctor's office with you. It may help remind you of what you want to tell him. If you get very shy, and can't speak, you can hand him the printout.

Just tell the doctor what you wrote here, people sometimes have problems. It may seem really strange to you but believe me they have heard things from people that were very, very out of this world. I knew a person and the things he told me were enough to say to him "you really need help" he said "no, I am fine". Things like people were spraying the tops of the trees so they wouldn't burn, my house had been color coded by the aliens, shoot, I asked him what the color was. lol

Say exactly what you just said. It is VERY important that you work with a doctor that you feel comfortable with at all times. If you don't click with your first doctor make an appointment with more doctors till you find the one that is the right fit for you. Good Luck, stay brave!!
