I've been infected with H Pylori for a almost a year. Thats a year of non stop gagging and throwing up everyday. I eradicated the strain with antibiotic treatments, so how come I still have symptoms? Even though H pylori is gone from my system (according to a blood test) I still gag and vomit constantly as if I was still infected. Has anyone had an infection of H pylori this severe? Also how long will these symptoms persist? I will ask my Dr. but I want to hear it from the Yahoo! community.

I had that problem as well. I had gone through a stomach surgery and developed the infection some years later. It first showed up as a positive Lupus test. I went through two bouts of strong antibiotics to get rid of the infection. It took a couple years for my stomach to totally calm down. It will get better but until it does, be good to yourself and your stomach.

I had the H-Pylori infection, took my meds and cleared it up. It could be that the lining of your stomach and esophagus are damaged from the throwing up the acid in your stomach. Have any other tests been done to see if there are other problems. (such as the flap between your stomach and esophagus not closing). I also had a problem with my gallbladder which caused a lot of the same symptoms as H-Pylori. That was removed. I would have your doctor perform more tests to find the problem. If your not satisfied with the results, see another doctor.

Helicobacter Pylori or H.Pylori for short is a type of bacteria that lives in the stomach and has a great affinity to living in an acidic environment. A typical treatment for it is a one week course of two antibiotics along with an 8 weeks course of meds known as proton pump inhibitors, which reduce the production of acid in your stomach. Your symptoms could therefore be due to incomplete eradication of the bacteria or due to the fact that you didnt take any proton pump inhibitors along with your antibiotics. Furthermore, they can also be due to a persisting stomach ulcer or, an abnormality in the sphincter between your stomach and oesophagus (food pipe) or a problem with the muscular contractions in your gut (food pipe in this case). I would suggest you see your doctor who should organize a camera test for the upper part of your gut, mainly your food pipe, stomach and part of your small intestines along with a CLO test to make sure that H.Pylori is eradicated. A CLO test is a test whereabouts a small pinch or a biopsy of your stomach is taken at the time of the camera test and is inserted into a dye which changes color if the bacteria is still present. This in my opinion is better that a blood test for H.Pylori . pH (acid) studies and manometry (pressure)studies of your food pipe might also be needed should your camera test be normal.
Best of luck
