Many people believe what they have been taught without question. They do not apply critical thinking skills and are thus at the mercy of specious arguments. I feel they are not willing to examine their beliefs because if their beliefs are incorrect they will be forced to change their opinion and their view of the world. Challenging beliefs and changing ones opinion isn't always easy. In fact, it can be quite painful to admit that one is wrong or that one's family, pastor, etc was incorrect in their beliefs. At the end of the day, it is the ego who is incontrol of the belief and most people's egos exist in a constant state of fear. When the ego is threatened, the response can be very unreasonable and even extend to violence in some instances. I think this is where E.Q. (Emotional intelligence) comes into play. If people can 'pull back' and not let their emotions interfere with beliefs and decision making -- be the observer -- life is much more peaceful and feelings of fear subside greatly.

I do observe that. People believe what they want, what society wants them to believe, or out of fear that others will judge them if they believe a different way. This applies largely to many "Christians" I've met, but it also goes for other controversial topics, most notably the Holocaust. Despite the evidence against the Holocaust, people believe it no matter what because society has made it into the worst non-natural tragedy of modern times--despite the fact that, even if the Holocaust did happen, there have been many worse tragedies to occur afterwards--though they remain largely ignored. The best example would be the Khmer Rouge massacre in Cambodia, where they killed anyone who was not a farmer or in the military.

So yes, I find people believe what's convenient to believe in, for they do not have to exercise their minds so much.

SOme believe because they were told to... or forced to, by closed-minded folkes. They were brainwashed into not asking questions no matter how rediculous something sounded.

Others have broken free of the brainwashing mold, thought on their own and are following a path that resonates in their hearts... like they shoulkd.

The truth isa there... some are just too clouded in their brainwashed-closed-mindedness to step out of their buibble and see it for what it is.

Very true...... Here is a great example...Evolution in itself has the same basis as 'religion'. It takes much faith to believe in Evolution.... The deceipt and power of the Evolutionary belief system is that it can do away with "accountability" from God.... As a Christian, I have faith that God created the world.. Not all Evolutionests are atheists but many are.. An atheist evolutionest can solve the problem of Accountability to God... They can put their faith in 'evolution' and in their thoughts believe that God did not create man but instead have 'faith' that man evolved.... An athiest evolutionest can have faith that the earth formed on its own as a result of the 'big bang' or other theory... As a Christian, I have faith that Jesus Christ the Lord is the living Son of God and I can live my life without fear of God's judgment....Evolution created the means and the way for non believers to solve the problem in their mind on how to deal with Jesus and the truth that the bible brings...If an athiest in his own mind can 'disprove' that God had anything to do with creation of the world then the atheist has no reason to fear God... In this process, God to the athiest becomes something that man made up.. To the Christian, God is the loving father that sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins... This truth gives much peace and hope and allows us to live our lives without fear of tommorrow...

This is are nature. As christains we are going to face opposition so get used to it.When Jesus told His disciples that He would be given over to man and be killed . It says: " But they understood not that saying , and were afraid to ask." Mark 9:32 In a sense they chose to be deceived rather than know the truth. But later when faced with the truth they laid down their life's for it . Saints are just sinners who fall down and get back up again . Much effort should be put into are prayers that we will be able to stand for the truth and to know it for it will set us free. Amen !

No one on this earth should be the judge of what others believe. What may seem silly to you may actually be real. You will only know the truth when the time comes. I know the Lord is real because I have felt His power and presence. I have been called stupid and brainwashed for my beliefs - but no one else knows what I experienced to strengthen my knowledge of the Lord. I don't believe in the Lord out of fear. I believe in Him because of my knowledge and experience. I believe in Him because He is my Father and Creator. I believe in Him because I know the truth.
