All mammals can swim, and as cats are mammals, they can swim too. Some cats love it (my cat loved swimming in shallow rivers) others hate it, but if they fall into water by accident, they will swim. They will drown if there is no way out (i.e. a slippery bathtub, or high concrete banks on the river) because they become tired quickly.
Many cats enjoy a swim, but it should never be forced on them; their memories are so full of people drowning newborn kittens, no wonder.

Yes some cats can swim. But some cats don't like water because they have to take the time cleaning themselves that they could be sleeping.

Yes, cats can swim and most people would say that cats hate water, well I beg to differ. I have 13 cats and more then half of them like water in one way or another. I have have 5 that like to go in the pool with me and 4 that like to be in the bath tub and in the shower. I guess it depends on who the owner is and how they bring them up while they are smaller, just like children.

They can swim, but are not happy about being in the water. The only exception to this is a breed called the Turkish Van cat, which enjoys playing and swiming in water and also the big cats like tigers, panthers and jaguars.

Hi Catherine...house cats can swim however most prefer not too and could easily drown after getting tired soon.

The only known house cat who likes to swim is the Turkish Van breed ( http://swimmingcats.com/ ). Exotic/wild cats on the other hand swim to use the water as their toilet and catch some food.
