My husband is in Iraq. oue daughter is 7 weeks old and hasn't met her daddy yet. Is it strange that I wrap my baby in one of his shirts that he left here for e. It still smells like him, and I just want her to have a little something of her dad.

No...I think that is so beautiful. The most touching thing I have heard today. I am sure that will be a good foundation for a strong bond in years to come...good luck with raising your daughter. What you are doing is admirable, I wish you the best!

No, it's not strange. My first child will be born while my husband is in Iraq. I myself have been thinking of ways to familiarize the baby with its father.

It's important for infants to have a connection to their parents. Smell is a great way to get Baby used to Dad in his absence. Another good thing to do is get a recording of your husband saying something, anything, reading a book, whatever, and play it for the child. Then when he comes home, not only will Baby recognize the smell, but also the voice, and the reunion will go much smoother. Dad will also feel less rejected and more tuned in if Baby isn't scared of him.

Don't forget, send lots of pictures to Dad, too. Babies grow so fast...

No it is not strange at all. Babies can make out different smells. They tell you if your baby is fussy to give them something that smells like Mommy, because they get use to Mommy's smell. So why not Daddy's smell too? It is actually a really good idea, because then when your husband comes home she will recognize the smell and be somewhat use to him!

It is not strange, in her brain she will associate the smell on the shirt to him when he returns. It is also a good idea to show photos of him to her while she is in the shirt, the visual conection may also aid in the conection in her brain even at her young age.

no way it is not strange...it is a love and i m glad that u as a mom are giving ur child feeling of her dad eventhough he is far...

if u think ur strange then consider this example...

i have a friend whose wife died after 2 year of marriage life and had 6 month of baby boy...he sometimes dress like his wife and go in front of his baby and play with him ...his baby knows i guess ..that its his dad not mom but whenever i see him he always enjoy that act and whenever crying stop crying...

so just know what i mean by it...

Bless you. It's not strange. It is a wife in love with her husband and realize that he is at great risk. It is moments like this that are foundational for the forty - seventy more years of marriage you will have.

No that is not strange. It is precious that you would think of something so wonderful. It will help her to bond when he returns, as she will already "know" him in one way, and scent is extremely important for infants - they do identify things partially with scents. That is so sweet of you to do that for both of them. Best wishes and congratulations. I hope he returns home soon so she can bond with him in other ways too.

I think it is a great Idea that way she knows what her daddy smells like and that way when you hold her you can feel like he is there with you holding her.
