Peel and slice onions left in the room overnight absorve the smell of most paints. There will be no smell of the onions either.

Time.

Time is a great healer of bad odours, that's why we always go on holiday whilst the decorators are in, when we return, after 3 or 4 weeks, the house smells lovely and clean - but that might have something to do with the maid coming in twice a week!!

Any way, you should try leaving the house for a week or so - have a break.

I heard that cutting an onion in half and leaving it in the room will absorb the smell of paint. However throw away the onion afterwards. I've never tried it but then I don't mind the smell of paint. I quite like it.

Getting rid of paint smell

There can be a smell for days after painting a room's doors, walls windows etc.

Place a bucket filled with water and a coffee spoon of liquid ammonia inside that room overnight. Or: cut two onions in pieces and place in a pot filled with water. That helps.

I love the smell of paint!!!

Good luck

You can burn a scented candle in the room. If you used an oil based paint be sure to open the windows first and vent with fans pointing out the windows. In the future there are additives that you can buy at your local paint store that will eliminate the paint odors. They are fairly cheap and come in dfferent scents. Such as vanilla, lemon, ocean breeze, and many more. If you have allergies try Benjamin Moores Eco Spec. It is a low odor, low VOC paint. It is only available in light to medium depth colors but is available in flat, eggshell and semi-gloss finishes.

Hi you could try putting a bucket of cold water in the room you have painted, it should absorb the smell.

Perhaps you could put on some scented candles or oil burners to cover up the smell. Also airing the house will do it good.
