I'm not quite sure that I understand the question but here goes. First off, why did you have to become an athiest in order to do away with the fear of hell? And being a good person has nothing to do with whether you can question the existance of God. as a christian, I have personaly doubted the existance of God and of heaven and hell. But that in itself is a frightening thing, if there is no hell and even no heaven what do we do when we die? Anyway, I don't think that questioning the existance of hell has to do one way or the other with being a good person.

You don't have to be a good Christian to be a good person.
I would go even further by saying that some Christians are scared into being good. As long as the fear of an eternity in hell is stronger then the urge of doing something (really) bad, that person will do the right thing, repeat the process and you have trained a good christian and a good person, but you have to question the true nature of this person.
Only someone that resists the urge to do something bad without the menacing image of hell ever present in his mind and does good without hope of eternal happiness in paradise can be called a "Truly Good Person".

Why would anyone be afraid to question the existence of hell? Your personal beliefs have nothing to do with reality. Your personal beliefs are nothing more than your opinion. Your opinion will never save you from your sins. The Word of God is the only source of absolute truth. Whether you believe it or not does not change the facts revealed in the Holy Bible.

I cant inderstand why a truly good person would be afraid to ask any sort of question at all. Looking for answers to anything is not a crime on any level. You sound like you didnt really have a solid belief to start with. But dont worry, even if you dont believe in Hell, Hell still believes in you.

I'm a Christian and know of a certainty that there is no burning lake where, upon death, the souls of the wicked go and are tormented for eternity. There is no such teaching in the Bible.
However, the Bible does teach that there will come a time when all the wicked will be totally annihilated in a short period of time.
Don't be fooled by the parable of Lazarus and the rich man; and any statements that speak of everlasting punishment. These do not support an everlasting burning of the wicked in hell fire.

You refer to yourself as a good person, yet you make statements about doing away with all whites. I have been good all my life. I donate my time and money to those in need. I treat all people with love and compassion (regardless of their color or beliefs). I am not afraid of hell because I know I'm going to enjoy eternal life with the Lord. I am truly good and I have more self confidence than most people I know - but I'm not an atheist. I believe in the Lord whole heartily because I have felt His presence.

As a Christian I neither question the existence of hell, nor do I fear it. Why would I question the existence of hell, and why would I fear it? What you are saying is because you believe in yourself and because you are a good person you have done away with your fear of hell - ergo, you are going to hell, and it doesn't scare you. You are truly a brave man, misguided, but brave.

Black Atheist says: "Becoming Atheist is a result of being good and believing in ourselves"
Bible says: "For by GRACE are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
Also, "...all of our righteousnesses are like filthy rags..." Isaiah 4:6
And finally: "...but he that believeth not shall be damned." Mark 16:16
Now, lemme think. I know, now, that I didn't evolve from an ape, so that leaves only one other option - God. Now, if He created me, surely I owe Him something. How about service? OK, got that down. Now, what kind of service would be most acceptable? Hmmm... something I think is good, or something He thinks is good?
Well, since I now understand that His "good" & my "good" are two vastly different concepts, & since I'm supposed to be performing "good" service for Him.....
I reckon I'll go with His idea of "good."

I fail to understand what the one has to do with the other. You say you have learned to think morelogically, yet you cannot even seem to phrase your question in a logical manner; therefore, how can you deduce that either Heaven or Hell exist, much less ponder the existence of God. Many of our best scientists, scholars and philosophers have concluded that God does indeed exist; so who are you to say otherwise? You seem very self-satisdied, but I myself fail to believe in my own goodness, nor do I believe in yours.

I believe that truly *good* people do question Hell's existence. Truly good people tend to question everything and then come to their answers based on education. Not what others have told them to believe.
Group think is a dangerous thing.
