You don't state your age. But let's assume you're in school.
When you see your lovely friend, try this:
situation A: she is with her friends.
Do NOT walk up and talk directly HER ... especially if she is
the most popular one. If you know one of her friends, wave hello,
and SMILE, maybe say "hi" to the friend, then walk by, SMILING.
Situation B: she is alone, let's say at her locker.
Walk by, and SMILE. Suppose she's standing there fiddling with her locker. You could toss off a casual remark about whatever SHE is paying attention to... e.g. " those combination locks are great, eh? ". Then SMILE.. and keep walking by.
If there's nothing obviously on her mind, option B is this:
compliment her choice of clothing (NOT her general looks). Make it sincere but casual, like "hm. nice jacket!". Then SMILE, and keep walking.
Don't ask her any questions, or start talking about anything that would be awkward for either of you. Just echo what she's possibly thinking.. then SMILE.
If she starts replying, you could stop briefly - but don't stand facing her. Stand sorta beside her, you both looking in the same direction. Don't stay long... just say "well, see you later" after a minute -and get going. Give yourself a planned exit.
The beauty of this plan is you don't have to DO anything. You don't have to SAY anything. You just have to SMILE... and avoid doing awkward things, which you want to avoid anyway!
Doing this a few times will break the ice and provide chances for more interaction, without being awkward. And, that's the hardest part.

Ask her something normal, like if your in school, "did you think the hw was hard?" that's what I try to do. Also, start hanging out with some people that she is friends w/ or whatever. She'll start to think of you as "in her social cirlce" and consider you. Also, offer compliments-ALL girls like them. However, before you give a compliment, mean it. If you say "you've got beautiful eyes" she may counter with closing them and asking their color. If you don't know that, don't be a fake. Just get comfortable around her before you offer such a big compliment-anything with "beautiful" in it....good luck!

Be yourself and ask her how she is doing today and go from there. Sometimes its not always the easies to do but its a start. I know how hard it is to tell someone that u like them. But I was always told just go up to the person and strike up a conversation and go from there. It has worked for me so many times. Just be yourself that is all I can tell u.

Just ask her out, if she rejects you, at least you tried. and plus, if you do not ask her out, you will be living in a world of "What ifs" and that sucks.
