I can't tell the difference. Freeing the slaves made America a better place. Shouldn't granting amnesty have the same effect?...or is it just about hating 'them'? Look at the following similarities:

1) Neither illegals nor slaves were citizens of our country.
2) Neither group previously had any rights according to the Constitution.
3) Just as there were some free Blacks in the north at the time of the Civil War, there are also many LEGAL Mexican immigrants today.
4) Freeing the slaves was opposed by many people...and so is giving amnesty.
5) People feared that freed slaves would rise up and threaten our way of life...just as people fear illegals are 'taking over'

But we forgave all those violators of Prohibition from their crimes...why should the 'crime' of entering America be thought of differently?

yea, but many people refuse to see it that way....

It was ILLEGAL for slaves to escape and go north, but they still did it....

Today, there is no penalty, many are considered heroes....

We will always interpret the laws and the constitution in many different ways....

Back then it was "all MEN are created equal". Supposedly the white men used this to say that women or black men didn't have any rights..

To even compare these 2 things is stupid. About the only thing that is similar is both are being brought here by and for rich white people and businesses.. To say amnesty will be good for this country like freeing the slaves was is a sentence not well thought out. Do you remember what it took to free the slaves? Civil War! Around 700,000 soilders died and a country divided, and the people against amnesty far outnumber the people who wanted slaves. Dont compare a dark time in our history to this invasion thats happening now, most did not fear slaves would uprise, but the fear of the amount of illegals entering now is a real and legit fear. And the next president will be decided by who will do something about this problem, or it might just be fixed again, we will see.

Interesting question, but there is a different.

1:Slaves were brought here against their will, sold by their own, for profit. Illegals cross the border illegally. We have a process for coming into the States and becoming a citizen.

2: No there aren't rights for illegals, nor the slaves. However, illegals do receive medical treatments and other government programs. Not only that, the treatment they receive come out of the pockets of Americans.

3: The fact that there are legal Mexican immigrants is not the issue at hand. They went about coming in and becoming a citizen the right way. I, for one, have no problem with that. I'm also not saying illegals are criminals, etc. But, there is a reason for procedure and protocol.

4: Freeing the slaves is not the same as amnesty. Slaves did nothing illegal to receive amnesty or to be freed. Amnesty to illegals would do nothing but contradict the laws of our country regarding crossing the border.

5: No one should be afraid of Mexicans "taking over". I understand illegals are here for a better opportunity for themselves and their family. They do work that an average American doesn't want to do. So to the people that say their taking jobs away...Do you want to go into a jobsite that's a bit unhealthy, work long, and get your hands a little dirty? This point doesn't justify illegals status in our society, but to say "they'll take over" is just hogwash.

Look Dumbass the slaves were brought here against their will and were freed because people felt slavery was wrong. ANd Amnesty if telling people who came here of their own free will illegally that they can break the laws and sovereinty of our country. Why do illegal aliens get jail time in Mexico if it's so good for the US it should be even better for Mexico then they would have more people to improve the country.

Amnesty is granted after a crime has been committed by the person it's being granted to.

Illegal Mexican immigrants came her of their own accord. Slaves did not.

Illegal aliens have rights in their own country. If I went there, I would not have the same rights they do because I'm not a citizen.

Free blacks in the north, were FREE, not illegal. Legal Mexican immigrants DO have rights.

Of course people don't want amnesty for illegal aliens, but slaves weren't illegals and it IS wrong to enslave people. We OWED it to the slaves to free them. They never should have been enslaved to begin with. Illegal aliens aren't being rounded up and forced to work...they're coming here again...of their own accord. Why should their income, health care, education etc... be our responsibility?

American citizens aren't 'afraid' of illegals. They just don't think ILLEGAL ALIENS should be allowed to waltz in and take jobs, free medicine etc...when LEGAL immigrants went through all the work and red tape, to become legal. How is that even fair to the legal Mexican immigrants?

Back to school you go.

#1 Slave... AKA known as PERSONAL PROPERTY. Personal property does not require citizenship, only that taxes be collected on said property. (most illegals do not pay taxes) Read your history book and learn.

#2 Illegal AKA against the law Charles Manson should be freed??

#3 SLAVES.. who escaped fought with the Brits during the Rev War. (a point I fully understand)

#4 Read the Emancepation Proclomation, it only freed the "southern" slaves. Although it did effectively free all slaves.

#5 You can bet yer a.ss if a "race" war breaks out between the "illegals" MEXICO will be funding them, if not sending troops.

The slaves were kidnapped, brought to the USA to be sold as slaves. They were freed, not given amnesty, idiot. Amnesty is granted for law breakers, of which the USA has between 11 and 30 million illegal aliens (Mexicans).

What, you having a problem harvesting cotton on your plantation?

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he, too, is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for, well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an
anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is? Only in America!

There is one MAJOR difference that can not be ignored. All of the illegal aliens are CRIMINALS that broke the law in order to get here while on the other hand the slaves were captured and brought here against their will.

Hmmm. Well, the main difference is, the illegal aliens are trespassing on our land, and the slaves were brought to the United States by force. We need to deport the illegal aliens, that's pretty much it, in a nutshell. Nice try, though! LOL
