2 Timothy 3:1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
Verse 5 - they have a form of godliness/religion but they deny the real power of God!

I think that the way a person perceives the church they are in is very individual. The whole church isn't lukewarm, just certain people. We don't have to scream and shout and run about to be inspired and full of the Holy Spirit. If you are feeling that way about a specific church, then it's because you YOURSELF are not growing or being inspired. Maybe a different type of Christian church would be a good idea for you. When I grew up, I changed to a different one, because it was more inspiring for me. There was nothing wrong with the church my parents raised me in-- it just wasn't quite right for me.

You described it best in your own question. Lukewarm! But honestly a church that way has no direction, guiding and leading in where to go in ministry and doesn't wintess to the people or do what the bible says and is not obedient to the word of God.

A person that "does" christianity, but really doesn't mean it. They live their lives two different ways. They are not really on fire for God. They have the words, but not the actions!
