The Quran 071.021
Noah said: "O my Lord! They have disobeyed me, but they follow (men) whose wealth and children give them no increase but only Loss.

The Quran 006.151
Say: "Come, I will rehearse what God has prohibited you from": Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not near to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which God has made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus does He command you, that you may learn wisdom.

The Bible Proverbs 13:23-25
A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away.
He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

The Bible Proverbs 23:12 - 13
Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.
Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die.

Yes, a brief disciplinary spank at the appropriate time can be a good thing.

I think that for the most part, there is no reason to spank a child. My daughter is four, and the only spank I gave her is when she went to touch the stove, and I slapped her hand. She's never touched it since. It's less damaging than the burn would have been, and now she stays out of the kitchen when I'm cooking.
I don't know about the Koran. And I don't know how my views may change as she grows older, but a spanking would ALWAYS be my last option.

I'm not quite sure about the Koran but I think if you have an out of control child and putting them in the corner or speaking to them about right from wrong doesn't sink through then you need to do what you must. Not to the point of being abusive but to the point where they get the hint. No one is really supposed to spank their child but many do, I do. And I do not see myself as being abusive! I see myself as doing society of favor of putting out well behaved, respectful young adults into the world. If it works for you to not have to spank then don't but if you can find no other way for them to get the point that it is not okay then do what you must! Sorry I couldn't give you the answer ur looking for.

Spanking is not hitting, lets seperate the two.

The best way to answer the question is

1. Is it fair?
2. Is it moral?

Nature provides a good answer, cats paw their kittens to teach them, in fact the whole animal kingdom the same is true.

So the answer is, if we think we know better than nature, why have we become so stupid!

Nothing in the quran about disciplining, except that parents are responsible for their actions.

I dont think its right for any parent to inflict psychical pain upon their children full stop (no matter what the age), as it only conditions and encourages their own children to repeat the same behaviour later on in their life.

For example; if their child disgreed with another child at his.her scool-then he or she would think that smacking or "spanking" that child would be the "right" thing to do, as their parents taught him or her to do so.

Pyshcical violence should be stopped full stopped-there are many other educational ways to teach a child right from wrong-without reverting to psyschical violence- and essentially whether anyone who spanks there child or not- pyschical harm.

I have this opinion specifically as i was abused as a child and beaten on regular occasions, even for the smallest inappropriate things, so i speak from experience. Trust me, its not very nice being on the other end of the "stick" (so to speak i hope!!).

It doesnt matter what religion you are from or whether you are athesist-just dont do it, and this way you wont be encouraging your child/children to either, in the future.

I hope this helps! x

Personally, I think that you should never hit a child.
This has nothing to do with religion, it has to do with good parenting.

DO NOT HIT YOUR CHILDREN - IT HURTS !!!!!!!!!
