First of all, its a choice as some have said. I clip my birds wings so they dont fly away or into the soup on the stove. They could never survive here, it's not tropical enough and they are used to meals coming to them. I advocate clipping.
Feathers grow like hair and nails. When your bird can fly UP, not just gracefully fall/fly down, it's time to trim. Read up on exactly which feathers to clip. My macaw has pretty feathers I leave the first few on there. By the way get a friend to help. Just have him or her hold the wing out, you clip.
Also, if there is any chance another pet will 'get' your bird, consider if you should clip. If the bird can't get away :( but you can also be SURE a cat CANT get to the cage, or the bird can't open it himself in time.
Lastly, consider clipping once your bird is CONFIDENT. My grey was wobbly and would fall off his perch in his cage. They all do at baby stage. So I left him full until he could fly all over the house and honestly got TOO confident..then I clipped him.

First, What is your purpose in chipping wings? Some people never clip, that is a personal choice.....That being said every six months there will be flight feathers growing in. But by the time a year has gone by your bird will have replaced every feather!

If it is a parrot that you are thinking of wing clipping, you will need to do it every 3 months or so. Feathers will grow back, just like hair. When they are looking quite long, clip them back again. If you are unsure, contact your local vet, and see what they say.

How often to you want to be placed in leg irons? Amounts to the same thing. Birds' main defense mechanism is flying. They get their exercise flying. You can run to excape danger or for exercise. As a breeder of cage birds for many years, I can truthfully say that one of the most certain ways to shorten a birds lifespan is to keep its wings clipped. The breast muscles will atrophy as will their lungs and heart. Next: dead bird.

Don't clip your birds' wings....it isn't natural. Let them fly and get exercise even if it's just in your house or they'll get fat and sick.

It depends on what your goal is. If it is to keep them from flying altogether, probably every few months. I clip my parrots twice a year but not to keep them from flying just to keep them from flying to high up
