Do you really think gungho 19 and 20 year olds raised alongside some red dirt road in a Red State are going to sit and question what they have been told in school, in Church, at home and in basic training???

It's God, Flag and home for these people and they don't live in a world of grey shades. It's all black and white and it's all about the mission. The military breaks down (Vietnam) when it starts to openly question the merits of the mission assigned to it. The current US Military shows no signs of that kind of questioning.

On one hand that is a good thing...but when the mission is flawed...it can be a very bad thing.

We know that NOW. UN resolutions authorized the removal of Saddam Hussein from power. Sometimes the UN actually does have teeth. It wasn't just the US that went after Saddam - it was a coalition. We led the way, but we weren't alone. The problem is that we ARE there now so what to do about it? Control of the Iraqi military has just been handed over to the Iraqi government, so let's all hope that things start improving. If they don't, its going to be a blood bath.

You've got it all wrong, Tyrone! The military complex isn't in Iraq to decide who is right And who's wrong. They're there to fight outsiders, referred to as insurgents, who is desperately trying to start a civil war between the two Muslim factions in Iraq.

Our senators are basically partisan sh it disturbers who muster less trust than a used car salesman. And, you believe we should be listening to these people? I think not!

The military complex makes no decisions on who is the enemy. They leave that responsibility to Washington. So, if we're after the wrong scum bags, point your finger at Washington not the military. They still get paid, no matter who they killed today! And, tonight they can sleep without fear of nightmares, because the weight of all those problems are on Washington.

Germany didn't pose a threat to the US sixty years ago either, but a psychotic ruler was in power and we had an obligation to finally begin defending people who couldn't defeat him alone. I certainly don't agree with the excuses used to get involved in Iraq, but I think we DID have an obligation to oust Saddam. It should have been done long before.

I just wish that soldier had popped the grenade into the hole BEFORE he found out who was cowering inside.

If you engage any remaining brain cells you possess, you may recall we'd been p*ssing about trying to get Iraq to comply with sanctions imposed after the FIRST Gulf war back in the early '90's........ they kept screwing us about, so it was about time the job was finished off properly in the hope that getting rid of Saddam's regime mean't we'd no longer have to keep on spending a bloody fortune keeping them in check, and thus free up military resources.

military broke down in vietnam?..

get that right, the political system broke down, we killed a whole bunch of the VC's.

As for brain washed soliders?.. where are they, i wanna meet some. I never see any around on this post.. maybe some of the gun bunnies that pull strings and make the guns go off.. maybe.. but the rest of us.

This is a job. we for the most part, don't care about iraq, and honestly dont go there. but because people in charge of us say were going because people over them said they were going.

We go

More civillian trash on this place..

Iraq has no link to terrorism? Perhaps you should go study, watch some CNN then come back and ask a different question, on a different subject.

I think you're optimistic. They don't seem to be getting any closer to "understanding". By the way it's OIL...that's what they're looking for. But taking something that doesn't belong to you, and for free, can't possibly go on for long enough :-)
