I was over weight when I went in the navy boot at great mistakes. I was removed from my unit and placed in a TPFU that's military for Temporary Physical Fitness Unit. Here I did nothing but exercise all day long for 2 weeks until I was at my required body fat % . Then I was put back into a new unit for regular training. After TPFU I needed a WHOLE new set of clothes as I literally walked out of my old uniforms.

Well, if you are asking this question for yourself, I'd suggest you try and get rid of the extra weight thru diet and exerccise before you enter boot camp. The physcial requirements for each branch of service are probably listed on military.com.

Boot camp is rough enough without having anything that will call attention to you. Extra weight does mean you will get "extra attention" and the extra attention is not positive attention. Most recruits want to go under the radar as much as possible.

They did alright I guess. They were put on strict diets, and watched closely. By the end of it, I think they were the most proudest, becuase they lost a whole bunch of weight, and they accomplished something, that most people thought was impossible. Oorah.

When I went through bootcamp, all of the overweight people made it through, dropping the required weight and lowering their run times, increasing their pushups and situps. That was just one division out of hundreds though, and it was four years ago.

When I went through Army basic in 94, there weren't overweight people. There may have been some bigger folks, but if they were even close to overweight they burnt it off pretty quick.

In basic training there isn't overweight people because of the weight and bodyfat requirements.

I can guarantee they were real close to the line when they went in. The military is pretty serious about its weight requirements.
