another run in with the family from before, i saw the little girl a few moments ago while i was taking out the trash. she was coming in with the "mother" & a huge bag of whitecastle burgers, we stopped in the hall and she was telling me about starting back to school and how the kids in her class are teasing her and calling her fat (she is 7, very short and looks to weight about 120lbs) the mother chimed in with "tell her, those kids are just malnutritioned and don't get enough food at home" the girl looked really hurt in the face about it & i think that's bullshit because she lets her eat all day and night, everytime i see her she's got a bag of fast food! Last halloween she came by for me to help her with her costume (princess dress) and when she put it on it busted right off her, & she was in tears! I think she knows she's heavy but the mother keeps making exscuses for it and contantly feeding her, how can I tell her she need's to do something different for the childs sake?

When you get a chance to be alone with the mom, try to unemotionally tell her what you told us. Suggest to her to ask her daughter about how she feels about her weight and what she would like to do to change it.

My brother is overweight as well. he eats junk food all day and sits around playing video games (he's 12) he weighs probably 150 lbs. I talk to my mother about it and she says it's just a phase. There's really nothing you can do. IF a mother is in denial then she is not going to listen to reason at all. Nobody wants to think there is something wrong with their children. Me personally, Im in my first trimester of my first pregnancy. I am not going to use food as either a reward or a punishment. For snacks it will be either fruit or something else completely healthy. I think part of the problem with today's kids is that food is used as rewards and punishments. If the kid cleans their room they get pie. if the kid doesnt clean their room.....No Pie. Food should be treated as a necessity for survival not a reward. Just my opinion...stepping off the soapbox now.......

Its not your place to say anything. And to the person who said to cal CPS, Get a life. Don't bother CPS with petty things like Junk food when kids are being mollested. God some people are so beyond ignorant its scary.

This poor, poor child. I would like to storm over to the mothers house to tell her she is not doing any good for her little girl, but that is not the answer. I would talk to some sort of child neglect thing.

Your view of how she treats her child isn't your business. What you can do is take the child for a walk yourself, and be a friend that she enjoys. But, when you step on moms boundaries you've out did yourself.

SOMEBODY should intervene, for the overall and future health of the child.
Aside from the ostracizing, obesity leads to things like diabetes and heart disease...
