December 21 - The Mayan Calendar reaches the end of its Great Cycle at 11:11 universal time, the solstice. The Great Cycle is 5,125 years long, and began in 3114 BC. For the Mayans, the end of the cycle symbolized a rebirth into a new era. The Mayans calculated the precession of the equinoxes (the wobbling of the Earth), with other astronomical anomalies, and based their calender around it. The Sun has not conjoined the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic since some 25,800 years ago, long before the Mayans flourished. According to Jose Arguelles, on this date the New Age will begin.

Starts with a world-wide epidemic of hangovers on January 1. Ends with another round of hangover producers on December 31.
In between, a lot of people will die. A greater number will be born. Folks will weep and laugh. Business will be good for some, go bust for others. Someone will call for a change in leadership. Someone else will urge us to "stay the course." Mamas will love their babies.
Sands will blow. Rivers will flow. The sun will rise in the East and set in the West.

There is talk, and it's probably just that, which says that 'they' - a rather superior breed of aliens, who were here before, will return, in late 2011.
Worth a £10 bet, surely?

End of the Mayan Calendar, due to a certain astronomical happening. Supposed to be the end of the world.

Very likely sod all...... after all the fuss about the millennium bug that was supposed to take place and all the publicity about that, nothing happened. Nostradamus predicted (or we thought he did through his quatrains) that the world would end in 1999.
We're still here......

The Mayan people marked this year as being the end of the world!? They were known to be very knowledgeable scientifically and astronomically and had supposedly made a lot of accurate predictions. Frightening isn't it!?
