I just answered the 15 year old living with a 17 year old question. i think everyone made a safe assumption ased on what is believed about teenagers today. If I got the wrong end of the stick then sorry but ask the right question and you will get the right answer. My answer still stands (minus the age of consent bit) as a 17 year old the person has not reached the majoeity yet and so cannot legally be responsible for you, you cannot be legally responsible for yourself so your parents must retain that responsibility. if they are willing to let you go then are they being irresponsible (I suppose you are now going to tell us that the 17 year old is a family friend, be more specific)

Hi right one thing a 17 year old cannot live on her own you have to be a least 21 years of age to have your own property or even rent a house, unless she is living with her parents and your 15 year old is living with them, second thing a 15 year old cannot legally leave home till there 16 and that is with the parents consent. There is nothing illegal about it, if you are ok with it, you could just say that she is still living with you till she is 16 then she can do what she wants. But if you are claiming benefits for her then its up to you what you do because if you say she has moved out you will lose money for her. I can really help if this isnt the answer as i did not read you first question

Not unless the 17 yr old has proven in court that she is mature enough to care for the child. At court she would become the 15 yr olds legal guardian and therefore responsible for that child. Once the 17 yr old becomes 18 she is classified as an adult and then can legally (with the permission on the mother) care for the 15 yr old - if the mother does not give persmisson then the 15 yr old will be taken into care by social services once they find out. (in answer to a statement made by one reply the legal age that you can rent property is 18 and not 21)

You are getting very confusing acvice here. One problem is, no-one knows which country this will take place in. I suspect your teenage girls live in Britain; I suspect you are getting replies from the U.S.A and other countries too ... which is why they are still irrelevant.
Even if there was a category for legal questions here, you'd still get the same people answeing them.
I am sure there is a Legal Aid somewhere in your yellow pages; look for something similar and try phoning them. Citizen's Advice doesn't really deal with this kind of query anyway.

Parents have responsiblity over the child until they are 18yrs old unless a court order says differently ie social services place the child in care. Letting them live with a 17 yr old who is also not legally an adult could leave you open if something was to happen to them. It might even be child abandonment.

You can be emanicipated from your parents but I do believe they have to sighn papers in order for this to happen. And you become a ward of the state which could kind of messy. You have to prove that you can substantially take care of yourself, and show documentation to this and that dosent mean quitting school to find a day job. You might want to think about this first before you make any decision it's a cold world out there

It depend where you live as laws are different in Scotland than they are from England and Wales. But basically you are legally supposed to be 16 before you can leave home. For more information try here: http://www.youthinformation.com/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeID=90845

this is a hard one as the law is different between England & Scotland regarding the 17yr old. As to the 15yr old i would say that it is ilegal for her to stay with a 17yr old as they are not clased as adults in England
