I would always steer cat adopters away from buying an expensive cat bed for their new cats. They are very attractive and colorful to US and mean nothing to the cat.

Cat's will always choose their bed in your house. As someone so cutely put it here -- they like to share your bed with you, they sleep in the middle! I think they like to be up high on something as it is warmer on a chair or couch or your bed.

I have a number of fluffy, fleecy pads that I put where they like to sleep too. Those can easily go in the wash when necessary.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste money on a bed. They sleep where they like. My cats sleep in any number of places and rarely their cat bed. The linen closet is unfortunately a favorite spot as well as the basket in my closet that holds my undies. Sometimes they sleep on a fuzzy blanket, other times under the bed, other times in the hot sun by the window.

I would recommend investing a kitty tower. They can be expensive but they're so worth it.

Most cats like to sleep where it is warm and they can snuggle up with something or someone, atleast that's how mine are anyway. A nice blanket, your bed, couch, chair, etc.

Our male peed on the cat bed we bought for him (one of the round ones lined with faux velour). We quickly discovered he prefers sleeping all splayed out as opposed to curled up. But then I bought a Shar-Pei blanket (the material is supposed to feel like the dog's hair), and it became "his" blanket.

We adopted our female just a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed she kept finding tight places to sleep.....like in between pairs of shoes and such. And she was curled up. So we bought her a round pet bed with faux shearling, and she loves it. Our male even sleeps in it now, too....although, I think that's more because he likes stealing her sleeping spots;)

Basically anything soft. They love kneading on it....probably reminds them of mommy's belly or something.

well, my cats like my pillow. its the tempr pillow or something. you know the one that takes your shape. "the bed doesnt move as kelly bounces about" yeah its made out of the same material. but they lay on the pillows. when i role over just a little and im not laying on the pillow. i try to move back over and they are already laying on my pillow. and always baffles me, because they get there fast and im always awake. its not like im sleeping and they hop on my pillow. im awake and they just get on my pillow

Most of my cats like to sleep on warm fuzzy things. One of them had commandeered an old housecoat of mine after I had decreed it to be no longer wearable.

Your cat will show you what he or she prefers. Something warm, with a good vantage point, and usually off the ground is normally their first choice.
