Two trains can enter a tunnel at 8.00, but not collide because one was on the the fast line and one was on the slow line, which mean that they can both enter the tunnel at the same time. The alternative answer is that one train was on the 'Up Line' (Up to London) and the other was on the 'Down Line' (Down from London) entering the same tunnel but from different ends and passing each other at about halfway in the Tunnel & hence no colision.

trying to get get away from the theme of the other answers... i would say that if they were entering the tunnel at the same time and same tunnel and only one track.. then the tunnel was very long and once they entered the tunnel from opposite ends that they had time to stop before colliding.... or they did it on different days!!!!!!!!!!

According to your description it could be for any number of reasons...

- 2 different tunnels.
- 2 different tracks.
- They were both travelling in the same direction.
